The island of dolls in Mexico: an eerie place

In the world there are many not only the most beautiful and unusual, but also the most terrible places. One of them is the Island of Puppets, Mexico. Fans of all kinds of horror should definitely visit this place, and, preferably, to wait for dusk, then the atmosphere here becomes even more sinister than in the light of the day. The island itself, on which "terrible toys" "settled", is one of the floating islands of the magnificent landmark zone of Hochimilko, and you can get to it on the gondola. Local residents try to avoid this place, because they believe in spirits, ghosts and other superstitions. If your nerves are all right, then the Island of the Dead Puppets is still worth seeing.

Where did these disfigured dolls come from, and in such quantity? It's all a matter of legend, which actually had a place. A certain religious fanatic named Don Julian Santana began collecting rubbish dolls more than half a century ago. Most likely, he tried to replace them with his flock, because he preached a heresy, for which he often beat stones with living, believing people. His Church also rejected it, so he had nothing to do but collect his belongings and, leaving his wife and children, go to one of the islands of Hochimilko. Becoming a hermit, he did not stop replenishing his eerie collection. One of his dolls, he found in one of the channels, where a little girl drowned. He took it as a sign from above, and began to hang up the pups in the trees and bushes, trying to soothe and appease the girl's spirit. Hence the Island of Puppets and got its name.

Also, history says that over time this man lost his reason completely, because he saw everywhere the spirit of a drowned baby, who demanded more and more dolls. Moreover, he even heard the voices of the toys themselves, who demanded the same thing as the girl. Don Julian just mad at the ugly, broken, thrown out people in the trash, the pups. He searched for them in all the surrounding garbage dumps and canals, and also traded them for fruits and vegetables that he grew in his garden so as not to die of hunger. The main "supplier" of crippled toys was the nephew of Don Julian, who sometimes came to the Island of Puppets to visit his uncle.

This place was not known until the 1990s. But one day the Mexican government took it into its head to ennoble and tidy up channels and islands. This involved the local ecologists, who found a crazy hermit, surrounded by his rubber and plastic friends and girlfriends, looking at people arriving on the Island of dolls with their empty eye sockets.

Today, Don Julian is no longer alive, although no one really can tell how he died. According to one information, he had a heart attack, on the other - he drowned in the same channel, where that little girl whose spirit finally brought the man mad. But there was an Island of Puppets, which the authorities decided not to touch, but to make a tourist object out of it. And they did not fail: on the old, wind-worn and rainy, burnt, mutilated dolls everyone who likes to tickle their nerves go to see them.
