The ideal man, according to Helen Fielding, or Who is Mark Darcy

In 1995, the British television series "Pride and Prejudice" appeared on the screen. It was not the first screen adaptation of Jane Austen's book, but she was destined to become the most famous, thanks to the performer of the role - Colin Firth. The image that he created so appealed to Briton Helen Fielding that she wrote her own novel, in which the main character was named in his honor - Mark Darcy. In Fielding's interpretation, this character turned out to be no less charming and noble than Miss Austen.

Mark Darcy (The Bridget Jones Diary)

For the first time this character appears in the novel Bridget Jones's Diary. The plot is very similar to Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen.

Mark Darcy, like his famous namesake, is the embodiment of the ideal of a man. He has excellent manners, and besides, he is noble and honest. As a lawyer for the protection of human rights, he serves the public good. However, the nobility of Mark is also his Achilles' heel - those around him often use it for mercenary purposes.

As in the famous book, at the first acquaintance Bridget and Mark did not like each other, however, by coincidence, they again and again meet at various events.

If Darcy gradually falls in love with the charming plump Jones, then the girl treats him prejudiced. The fact is that her boss, the sexy Daniel Cleaver, seeing the interest in his old friend Brigitte, lied that Darcy had led his bride away.

In fact, Mark Darcy himself was a victim of Cleaver's machinations. He was the lover of Mark's wife, which led to a divorce.

The truth about Darcy Bridget does not find out soon. Moreover, she is able to experience the merits of Mark by her own experience. Indeed, as in Austin's novel, the hero saves her family from shame and ruin.

The fate of Brigitte and Mark in other books Helen Fielding

In 1999, the second novel of the series, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, was published. This book has become a modernized version of another novel by Jane Austen - "Arguments of the mind."

The noble handsome lawyer Mark Darcy in the new work is still irresistible. At first, their relationship with Bridget is simply beautiful. But because of the advice of friends and various books on psychology, the girl begins to doubt her lover. In addition, a bitch has a rival - Rebecca. This woman goes to the trick to separate lovers.

Trying to heal the wounds after parting with Mark, Jones and his girlfriend go to Thailand. Here they get acquainted with the charming Jed, who is trying to use them to smuggle drugs. The bastard does not succeed, and he escapes, and the innocent Brigitte gets to prison.

Despite the gap, Mark helps the former get out. Later they find out the relationship and decide never to leave again.

In the third novel of the series (Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy) Mark appears only occasionally, and even then in the recollections of the main character. The fact is that the main man of life Bridget died, leaving Mrs. Darcy a widow with two children in her arms. Luckily for his family, he left them a solid inheritance.

The lack of this character in the book is very acute, and although Fielding tried to replace him with Scott Wallacker, it was all wrong.

The fate of Mark Darcy, according to the movie Bridget Jones's Baby

Bridget Jones and Mark Darcy were forever separated because Helen Fielding "killed" the protagonist in the last book. However, the creators of Bridget Jones's Baby decided that the audience is not ready to part with the charming Marc Darcy in the performance of the British Colin Firth.

The action of the painting takes place 10 years later (in the book in 20). Bridget and Mark broke up, and the hero married another. However, this relationship did not bring him happiness, and he is in a state of divorce.

Once, having got drunk on one celebration, the former lovers spend the night together, and later it turns out that Miss Jones is pregnant. The only problem is that shortly before night with Mark she slept with another man, and who the father of her child is unknown. For 9 months Mark and Brigitte are trying to understand their feelings and only during childbirth understand that they love each other and want to be together. In the final of the picture they marry.

Mark Darcy - actor Colin Firth

As in the film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice in 1995, in all three movies about the fatty Jones of the charming Darcy played the British Colin Firth.

Today he is one of the most sought-after actors in the world, but before the role in Pride and Prejudice he was practically unknown to anyone, although he was filmed for almost a decade ("Lady with Camellias", "Valmon"). When he was offered to play Mr. Darcy for the first time, Firth did not agree for a long time, believing that he was not suitable for this role.

After "Pride and Prejudice" the actor became known to the whole world, but his career continued to slip. After several doodling films (Donovan Quick, My Merry Life, Blue Blood), at the beginning of the new millennium, Colin received an invitation to play Mr. Darcy in The Bridget Jones Diary.

Ironically, after the role of a gentleman lawyer career in the movie Firth went up the hill. He began to appear not only in British films, but also in Hollywood. And in 2010 he received an Oscar for the role of George VI in The King's Speech.

However sad it is to admit it, it's time for Mark Darcy fans to say goodbye to this character, because the plot of the last book Fielding once and for all put an end to his fate. The only thing the fans are hoping for is that Helen Fielding will describe the life of the Darcy couple before the death of Mark in a separate book. Will the writer justify the expectations of the fans - time will tell.
