The Goddess Hathor is the mother of all living things.

Egyptian mythology is a huge interesting layer in the history of the development of the whole culture as a whole, which has not yet been thoroughly studied. Scientists are constantly finding more and more details of the development of Egyptian civilization, making discoveries and replenishing the pantheon of gods with new "characters". However, all researchers have long known the main, major gods, among them the Egyptian goddess Hathor, or Hathor. About it should be told in more detail, so she is quite an interesting goddess of Ancient Egypt.

Goddess Hathor

Goddess of heaven, sun, beauty, femininity, and also fun - all this is Hathor. She was considered the daughter of the supreme god Ra and the wife of Horus, who gave birth to the Sun. However, it is interesting if the goddess Hathor is the daughter of the sun god Ra, how did she then give birth to the Sun, if it existed before her appearance on the divine "light"? On this issue, there are many disputes, as a result, the researchers came to the conclusion that she, perhaps, not Ra's mother, but his wife. True or not, we, alas, will never know.

Since the ancient people tried to find explanations, even the most ridiculous ones, for any natural phenomena, as well as objects existing in this world, they explained the presence of the Milky Way by Hathor's milk, which often appeared in the image of a celestial cove. Why a cow? In Egypt, for a long time this animal was sacred, it symbolized the beginning of a new life, the very nature and even beauty.

What is the name of the goddess?

The name of the goddess from Egypt means either "home" or "Gore" (the sun god), but still historians tend to believe that the "hator" is the house of Horus. This is proved by drawings found during excavations. They depicted a mountain, and on its top is the house in which the Hawk falcon lives . It was from this moment on, scientists began to wonder if, instead of the wife of the god Ra, there was the goddess Hathor and was not her son the god of the Sun of the Mountains? Probably, so it was, because then everything again falls into place.

According to other sources, the name of the deity means "heaven", this fact is confirmed by the connection of the goddess with the sky, the Sun and the Milky Way. In general, the ancient Egyptians all incomprehensible processes taking place in the sky, often associated with the goddess Hathor.

Exterior view Hathor

The most beautiful among the Egyptian goddesses was always the goddess Hathor. The description tells us that she was portrayed as a beautiful slender woman with horns on her head, later they transformed into a crown, between two parts of which was a circle, it certainly symbolized the solar disk. From time to time in the drawings and frescoes appeared Hathor with ears and cow horns, in the works of some authors she generally had the appearance of an ordinary average cow.

Very often it happened that the deity in the form of a woman with horns was depicted next to a cow, but this is already a late fresco. Interestingly, the Egyptians did not envy the Greeks and their faith, because they had their own Aphrodite, the goddess Hathor. The photos will not convey what the faithful felt to Hathor, but it is still clear that the comparisons with Aphrodite are not groundless.

It is not surprising that sometimes it was depicted as a lioness, since there is one legend about Hathor Sekhmet. It says that initially Ra lived among people, but grew old and let slip about the fact that all this time he was afraid of people and is afraid until now. People, without thinking twice, went to war against their master. No matter how hard Ra tried to burn them, he could not cope with the furious crowd. Then Geb suggested that Hathor turn into Sekhmet - the goddess-lioness and exterminate people. The goddess liked to kill so much that she did not want to reincarnate again. Then Ra went to the trick. He turned off the sun, Sekhmet fell asleep, and the gods made her a beer and added a blood-color dye. The lioness woke up and drank beer, taking him for blood. Drunk, she turned into Hathor again.

The Hathor Symbol

The main attribute of the goddess is sistra. This musical instrument was a defense against evil spirits, which is why his images were used as amulets. Why the musical instrument is unknown, it is known only that her son was the god of music Iha. And in some areas of ancient Egypt, the goddess Hathor herself was considered the patroness of musicians.

At a later time, the cult symbol of Hathor was considered a special pillar with two cow's head at the end, as the goddess was considered the personification of the dual female soul.
