The embankment of Kharkov: history, modernity, sights

Krasnoshkolnaya embankment of Kharkov is located between Moskovsky Prospekt and Uritsky Square. It has its own special story associated with the buildings and objects that are located on it. History of the embankment

The appearance of this street dates back to the late 18th century. According to the information from 1785, the site where the industrial and pedagogical college stands today was assigned to the post office building, which faced the waters of the Kharkov River. At the beginning of the XIX century, this place was already built construction, which housed the first male gymnasium in the city. It is customary to refer to the style of Russian classicism, and the author of the architect's project was E. Vasiliev. Because of the opening of the gymnasium, the embankment of Kharkov was called the Gymnasium.

From Gymnasium to Krasnoshkolnaya

In Soviet times, the embankment of Kharkov was renamed Krasnoshkolnaya. After the war, many new buildings were built here. The Quay Quarter of Kharkov was reconstructed to a large extent in the 60s of the last century. Place from the street. Rustaveli to the square. Uritsky, and further from the site where the Podolsky Bridge is located, and to the street Netechenskaya, was dotted with new residential buildings that replaced the old ramshackle buildings. The lower floors filled the shops and various institutions where the quay quarters are located.

Kharkov, in addition, received a building, which currently occupies Ukrorgstankinprom. This institution still largely helps a large number of urban enterprises. On the Krasnoshkolnaya embankment, a structure was built, in which the Ukrainian branch of the All-Union State Institute, called Energosetproekt, was placed. It was organized in the 60s of the last century. Among the main directions on which the institute works, one should mention the development of projects for energy systems, and also schemes for the electric supply of production facilities in many countries of the near abroad.

An important landmark, which is almost a symbol of the Kharkov embankment, is the circus building (by the way, it is one of the oldest in the country). The date of its foundation dates back to the end of the XIX century. In the new building it was opened in the 70s of last century.

The construction was erected in the western area of the Krasnoshkolnaya embankment. The building, which is so popular with visitors, still remains a combination of elegance and monumentality, modern trends at the time and traditional circus features.

The embankment of Kharkov is a place where the past of the city and the present is being united today. There are many echoes of the Soviet era and signs of modernity, such as a well-maintained park and many shops, restaurants, etc.

Reconstruction of the embankment and modern view

The first stage of the redevelopment of the Krasnoshkolnaya embankment (starting from the circus building to Gagarin Ave.) was completed by 2008, and the second (from Gagarin Ave to Moscow), respectively, in 2009, respectively.

In the process of the reconstruction, lighting devices, supports, lamps, benches were installed. In addition, today the embankment boasts a sports and two children's playgrounds. It is beautifully laid tiles, there are fences made of granite with memorable guests of the city with balls and bars.

There are special places, which at the moment already symbolize Kharkov. The Krasnoshkolnaya Embankment is one of them. Residents of the city, visitors and tourists like to visit it, especially in the warm season. Here you can hear the songs of street musicians, sit on a bench in a romantic atmosphere, look at the stars and the quiet flow of the river Kharkov, by which many like to go boating. Even here you can appoint a date or take a walk with the child. It was the Krasnoshkolnaya embankment that became the place where newlyweds were photographed, and they just liked to arrange photo sessions.

The monument to Sagaidachnoy on the embankment

In 2015, a monument was erected here, dedicated to the famous Ukrainian hetman P. Sagaidachnoy. He was brought here from the city of Sevastopol. The monument is decorated with granite, and around it there is a park zone, which gave this place a special atmosphere.
