The drug "Cerebrolysin": instructions for use

Among all drugs that affect tissue metabolism, a special place is occupied by amino acids. These include the drug "Cerebrolysin". The instruction to it recommends the use of this remedy for the treatment of many serious diseases.

This drug is referred to the group of nootropic drugs. Its active substance is the hydrolyzate of the brain substance released from proteins. It consists of 18 amino acids. So, one milliliter of this drug for the content of amino acids is equivalent to approximately one gram of brain tissue (fresh).

The drug "Cerebrolysin", the instruction to which recommends using it for intramuscular and intravenous administration, is available in the form of an aqueous solution. It is sold in ampoules (1, 5, 10 ml) and vials (30, 50 ml). The solution is amber, transparent. In 1 ml contains a complex of peptides extracted from the brain of a pig. Auxiliary substances are distilled water and sodium hydroxide. The drug "Cerebrolysin" in tablets is not produced.

After a single injection of the drug, neurotrophic specific activity persists for almost eight hours.

The drug "Cerebrolysin" - its use is advisable in diseases that cause disruption of the functioning of the central nervous system:

- brain trauma (concussion, craniocerebral trauma);

- operations on the brain;

- transferred hemorrhages;

- inflammatory processes;

- vegetative dystonia.

The drug is also used as an aid in the treatment of narcolepsy, small epilepsy and with mild mental retardation of children.

Indications for the use of this drug are also:

- ischemic stroke;

- consequences of hemorrhagic stroke ;

- Decreased concentration of attention in childhood;

- a syndrome of a dementia ;

- Alzheimer's disease;

- cerebrovascular insufficiency;

- endogenous depression (resistant to antidepressants).

The drug "Cerebrolysin", the instruction to which indicates a huge number of diseases in which it can be used, has only a few contraindications:

Acute renal failure;

Hypersensitivity;

- status epilepticus.

With some caution, this drug is prescribed for pregnant women (very rarely in the I-st trimester), nursing mothers and allergic diathesis. Also, do not forget that this medication significantly enhances the effect of antidepressants when interacting with them.

Adverse events: painfulness upon administration, allergic reactions, hyperthermia (with rapid intravenous administration), sweating, constipation, nausea, diarrhea. Very rarely there is an arrhythmia, tachycardia, dizziness, agitation, insomnia, apathy, fatigue, hypertension and hypotension.

There are several schemes for which the drug "Cerebrolysin" is administered.

Instructions for dosage and route of administration

With ischemic stroke, TBI (craniocerebral trauma), complications after operations, the drug is administered intravenously (drip). The duration of the procedure is 1-1.5 hours; Dose - 10-60 ml, diluted in 100-250 ml of NaCl solution (0.9%). The duration of therapy is 10-25 days.

With stroke (residual period), traumatic brain damage the drug is administered intravenously for 5-10 ml 20-30 days.

With depression and psycho-organic syndrome - intravenously for 5-10 ml 20-25 days (with dementia), 10-15 days (with depression).

Neuropediatric practice - intramuscularly for 1-2 ml for thirty days. Repeat this course two or three times a year.

Alzheimer's disease, dementia - intravenously (drip) to 20-30 ml in 100-200 ml of NaCl solution (0.9%) for twenty days.

After opening the ampoules, the solution should not be stored. It must be used immediately. The drug is stored in a dark place at 25 ° C. Duration of storage: five years - in ampoules and four years - in vials.
