Television is ... What are the types of television?

For more than half a century, television is one of the main ways to deliver information to many people simultaneously, as well as a way to relax after a day's work and have fun on weekends.

Technical progress moves with leaps and bounds, the types of broadcasting change, and the availability of television for the public.

How did the television begin?

The date from which Soviet television began its countdown is April 29, 1931, when the first television image was broadcast.

Since then, the development of technology has not stood still. If in the Soviet era, two TV sets were a luxury for a family, and the whole family was going to watch the evening broadcasts on a single television channel (and sometimes neighbors), but now nobody is surprised by TV broadcasting on a tablet or laptop anywhere with internet access.

Ether TV

The most, Perhaps, Russia's main television is ethereal. For its distribution in all cities, television towers are installed - repeaters that amplify the incoming signal.

Due to the massiveness and centralization of this type of broadcasting, the main TV channels became available to the inhabitants of Russia even in small, remote corners of the country.

In order to receive the terrestrial signal at home, you need to install an antenna and connect it to the TV. You can also use a common, collective antenna, if you live in an apartment building.

Etheric television is analog, but lately digital broadcasting has been spreading faster and faster. In order to receive digital terrestrial television, you need to have a TV with built-in switching capability from analog to digital. If this is not, you can use special TV tuners (set-top boxes for TVs).

Due to the general prevalence of on-air TV, the advertisement placed on it helps to reach the widest range of consumers.

Cable TV

From the viewpoint of reaching the audience, such television occupies a niche opposite to the ethereal one. Its main goal is not mass broadcasting and bringing TV programs to as many viewers as possible, but the diversity and satisfaction of the needs of people with different interests.

Cable TV is characterized by a variety of channels of completely different subjects. Those who are interested in sports can watch the broadcasts of various competitions. For families with children there are specialized children's and cognitive channels. There are TV channels, day and night demonstrating news programs, movies, music videos or entertainment programs.

To connect to a cable TV, you need to contact the nearest operator (often they also provide Internet services). If you live in an apartment building, then for sure there is one or several companies that are ready to issue a paid subscription for you and to extend the cable to the apartment.

Satellite television

Satellite TV is another type of broadcasting to the audience. Such television broadcasting is carried out with the help of numerous satellites flying in near-earth orbit.

To receive a satellite signal at home, you need to buy a special antenna ("satellite dish") and place it on the roof of the house or on the balcony. For residents of some remote areas this is the only way that television can get to them.

The coverage of most of the Earth's surface by satellites is achieved by their specific location in orbit. They are located along the equator and move at such a speed that the observer will feel as if they are constantly at the same point in the sky.

In contrast to the terrestrial, satellite TV receives the main income not from advertising, but from subscription fees of subscribers. More recently, the acquisition of a set of satellite television was not affordable for everyone, but the situation is gradually changing.

Online TV

In our age of ubiquitous Internet distribution, online TV is a way to stay in the information field, even far from home and any premises with a TV.

In addition to accessibility, the main advantage of interactive (online) television is the flexible management of the subscription to TV channels, among which you can always choose exactly those that are of interest at the moment.

Another advantage of this type of broadcasting is the lack of a binding to the broadcast transmission time. The subscriber can always put the program of interest on a pause or view later in the record.

How to choose?

There are several criteria by which You can choose the best type of TV for yourself.

- Subscription fee. Now it is only for cable and satellite TV, but it can also appear on the air after a general transition to digital terrestrial television. For cable TV, the card is constant and includes usually 100 channels (in addition to the main terrestrial ones). The price of a set of satellite TV is regulated by the number of connected TV channels.

- Equipment. TVs and antennas for receiving terrestrial TV in cities are installed everywhere and usually do not require the purchase of separate equipment. For remote areas or holiday villages, the best option is to purchase a set of satellite TV. Cable TV is most conveniently connected with the Internet to the operator of your home.

- Reception of a signal. For multi-storey buildings, the most accurate image is achieved with the help of cables, whereas it is better to connect to a satellite dish outside the city. Analog TV is suitable for those who are accustomed to using the TV as a background and do not pay attention to the signal quality.
