Technology of laying flexible shingles

Roofing is one of the most expensive parts of the house. Even specialized construction teams that are engaged in the construction of housing on request, take it for a fee for a separate fee. It is sometimes comparable to the cost of the whole frame of the building.

So the opportunity to save a little and independently to lay the roofing material is welcomed by many. For example, to inexpensive and sufficiently high-quality methods is the laying of flexible shingles, the cost of which allows it to be used by even not too well-off people.

We prepare the base

It is not worth much to say that it should be as reliable as possible without defects. In simple terms, the rafters should be not only strong, but also treated with antiseptic composition against decay. That is why the use of antiseptic and the presence of vapor barrier are mandatory conditions.

Do not forget that the vapor barrier must be laid correctly. Particularly carefully prepare corners and other places of complex configuration, because correcting flaws in these cases is not only difficult, but impossible in principle. Take into account that the experts of the old training generally advise before laying the flexible shingles to process the boards of the battens with molten bitumen, but this should not be done.

The joints of the boards must always be on the rafters, since otherwise you will not be able to ensure the proper strength of the structure.

Ventilation

In no event should you forget about the device of a normal ventilation system, since otherwise, even with a normal vapor barrier your roof will not last long. Please note: the exhaust port itself is positioned as high as possible. The hole for air intake is just placed as low as possible, under the slope of the flexible tile.

Stacking

The first layer of the vapor barrier is mounted. Lashing - no less than 10-15 cm, fix the material with nails with an interval of at least 20 cm. The joints are punched with a sealant or special roofing glue.

Fasteners

Note that it is unacceptable to use conventional roofing nails to fasten the shingles. For this purpose, only a specialized galvanized fastener is used. Such nails have maximally wide and very smooth hats, which contribute to a close fit of the material to the surface.

At a slope of the roof to 60 degrees it is nailed with six nails. If the steepness of the roof is higher, then another pair of fasteners is driven into the upper corners (not less than 25 mm from the edge).

Please note that at an ambient temperature of up to +15 degrees Celsius, we strongly recommend that you warm up the bottom of the sheets with a construction hair dryer. In this case, the flexible tile "Iko" will permanently protect your roof from leaks.

Some builders say that to maximize the quality of the connection, it is best to weld the shingles on the roof. For this, a burner can be used, but with a simpler method, molten bitumen is used.

All points in which the flexible shingles "Shinglas" adjoins closely to the windows, cornices and other structural elements, it is necessary to work with bituminous mastic or sealant.
