Taittinger - champagne of the French elite: photo, description, reviews

No one Interstate reception or expensive banquet does not do without champagne with a world name - Taittinger. This is the only trademark in Champagne, which is in private family ownership and continues to maintain a high level of quality of sparkling wine, set almost one hundred years ago.

The history of champagne at Taittinger

The trading house of champagne wines Taittinger is one of the oldest in Champagne. The history of its origin dates back to 1734 and is associated with another name "Fourneaux" named after its founder Jacques Forno.

Almost two hundred years later, in 1932, the winery was bought by another Frenchman, Pierre Tettenge. Since then, a new era in the history of champagne wines begins - the Taittinger brand appears. Since this year, the company has been actively growing and developing.

In 1952, the first bottle of sparkling wine was produced, which was internationally recognized, both among expert critics and among drink lovers of the Taittinger brand - Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs. The first part of the title is literally translated as "the count of Champagne" and indicates the belonging of King Navarre Thibaut IV to the origin of winemaking in the region.

According to legend in the XIII century, he brought from the crusade a grapevine of the Chardonnay variety, which initiated the modern champagne. In gratitude to this, today on all bottles of the trade mark Tettenge there is a figure of the knight of Troubadour. The same Taittinger champagne in its composition has a dominant note Chardonnay.

Since the foundation of the trading house, he has remained in the family property all these years. Only in 2005 the Tettenge brand was bought by an American company. But a year later the grandson of the founder returned the firm to private property, and continued the business begun by his grandfather.

Vineyards and wine production

Nearly 300 hectares of land in Champagne belongs to the champagne house Tettenge. Half of them are vineyards of the Pinot Noir variety, one third of the square is Chardonnay, the rest is Pino Minier. All the collected grapes go to the production of their own champagne.

But, unfortunately, the harvested crop can not cover all the needs of the company. Annually, the trading house produces up to five million bottles a year. This is a lot, so the company also buys grapes from small producers.

The main success of Taittinger is champagne of the highest quality from the best grape varieties. To the natural wine materials the company makes very high demands, but the final result is worth it.
