"Sunny stroke", Bunin: analysis of the story, summary

The story of Ivan Bunin "Sunstroke" in its own way is amazing and peculiar. At first glance, the story line is quite common. But this is only at first glance. There is hardly a product more finely organized than the "Sunstroke". Bunin analyzes in it the problems of a personal nature: the moments of choice that influence the future destiny of a person. Heroes make their choice - and find themselves in the distance from each other.

"Sunstroke" (Bunin): a summary

While traveling on a ship, a military man is found - a lieutenant and a young woman - a stranger. The author does not give her name, however, as well as the lieutenant. They are just people, their story is not at all unique, similar to many of those that occur. A couple spends the night together. The young woman is embarrassed, but she does not regret what happened. It just needs to go, and it's time for him to leave the ship. The lieutenant easily lets go of the woman, escorts her to the dock and returns to her room. Here, he is knocked out of the rut by the smell of her perfume, not enough cup of coffee, which they forgot to clean, still alive memories of last night.

The lieutenant's heart is suddenly filled with a touching feeling that he can not accept and tries to drown out by trying to smoke cigarettes continuously. Exactly looking for salvation from impending tenderness, he rushes into town, mindlessly wanders around the market, passes among people and feels emptiness in the soul. When an inexpressible feeling prevents him from thinking, reasoning and reasoning, he decides to send her a telegram, but on the way to the post office he realizes that he does not know the name, the woman's name, or her address. Returning to his room, he feels old for ten years. The lieutenant already understands that they will never meet again.

This is a very capacious content of the story, although brief enough. Bunin's "sunstroke" in the retelling will allow upper-grade students to better prepare for literature lessons. Information can be useful for students of pedagogical colleges, as well as for those who study at universities.

What is the story of "Sunstroke"?

Bunin's work "Sunny Stroke" tells of an unexpected love that overtakes the main characters (the lieutenant and stranger) while traveling on a ship. They are both not ready for the feeling that has appeared.

Moreover, they have absolutely no time to deal with this: there is only one day that decides the outcome of the events. When it's time to say goodbye, the lieutenant can not even think about what torments he will experience after the young woman leaves his cozy room. Precisely in front of his eyes there passes a whole life, which is measured, is now estimated from the height of yesterday's night and the feeling that bewitched the lieutenant.

The composition of the story

The story can be conditionally divided into three parts, containing a different semantic load: the first part - the moment when the lieutenant and stranger together. Both are in confusion, somewhat confused.

The second composition part: the moment of farewell of the lieutenant and the young woman. The third part is the moment of awakening a tender feeling, which is difficult to cope with. The author very subtly demonstrates the moments of transition of one composition part to another, with the center of the narrative gradually becoming the state of the protagonist - the lieutenant.

The ideological component of the story

The meeting between the lieutenant and the stranger became for both of them akin to a real sunstroke, brought a blinding passion, and then a bitter insight. This is what Bunin says. The book "Sunstroke" is covered with a romantic beginning, it tells about the need of everyone to love and be loved, but at the same time absolutely illusory. Perhaps the young men will see here the desire of the heroes to find their only love, but rather, it is an attempt to give up love in favor of common sense: "We had to escape ..." "This new feeling was too great happiness," which, obviously, the characters could not afford , Otherwise it would be necessary to change the whole settled way of life, to make some changes in yourself and change the environment.

Unknown status

The image of a young woman whom the lieutenant meets on the ship, Bunin draws without embellishment and does not endow it with special characteristics. She does not have a name - she's just a woman with whom a lieutenant spent the night.

But the author very subtly emphasizes her experiences, anxieties and excitement. The woman says: "I'm not at all what you could imagine me." Perhaps she was looking in this fleeting connection for the need to love and be loved. Perhaps, for her, all that has happened is nothing more than an accident, a surprise. It must have been in the marriage life (the presence of which is mentioned in the story), she did not receive enough warmth and attention. We see that the stranger does not make any plans, does not oblige the lieutenant. That's why she does not consider it necessary to communicate her name. It's bitter and painful for her to leave, leaving the lieutenant for good, but she does it, obeying her intuition. She subconsciously already knows that their relationship with anything good will not end.

Lieutenant's condition

As shown in the story, it is likely that at first the protagonist was not ready to assess the feeling that arose with an unfamiliar woman. Therefore, he so easily releases it from himself, believing that nothing connects them.

Only returning to his room, he feels the signs of a beginning "fever" and understands that it can not be avoided. He no longer belongs to himself, he is not free. Suddenly the atmosphere of the room, in which they spent the night together, was incredibly influenced: "There was still a cup of coffee on the table, there was still an uncleared bed, but it was gone." The lieutenant can not accept this feeling, in every possible way pushes him away from himself, almost reaches frenzy.

Metamorphosis of the Lieutenant and its meaning

How his state of mind changes, speaks of the awakening power of the senses. Perhaps the lieutenant, a military man, could not even imagine that some fleeting meeting with a woman would reverse his whole value system, make him rethink the significance of life and rediscover its meaning. The theme of love as the greatest mystery, which does not know compromises, is revealed in the story "Sunstroke". Bunin analyzes the state of his hero, emphasizes confusion and despair, and also with the bitterness he tries to crush in himself the awakening feeling of love. In this unequal battle it is quite difficult to win. The lieutenant is defeated and feels tired, aged for ten years.

The main idea of the story

Obviously, with his work the author wanted to show the dramatic outcome of love. Meanwhile, each of us is always free to choose how to deal with this or that difficult situation. The lieutenant and his lady just were not ready to accept the generous gift of fate, so they preferred to leave when they first met. And it is difficult to call this an acquaintance - they did not give each other their name, they did not exchange addresses.

Most likely, their meeting was just an attempt to drown out the anxious voice of a melancholy heart. As you might guess, the characters are unhappy in their personal lives and very lonely, despite having a marriage. They did not leave each other's addresses, did not give their names because they did not want to continue the relationship. This is the main idea of the story "Sunstroke". Bunin analyzes and compares the heroes, which of them is no longer ready for a new life, but as a result it turns out that both show considerable cowardice.

Theatrical productions and cinema

This work was not only one time filmed, but also lost on the stage of the theater, so striking is the imagination of the situation described in the story "Sunstroke" Bunin. Mikhalkov shot the eponymous film in the boulevard. The actors play is amazing, it conveys the feelings of the heroes and their inner pain, which sounds like a heavy chord from beginning to end.

Probably, there is no other such work that would evoke so ambivalent feelings as "Sunstroke". Bunin, reviews of this story (very contradictory) confirm this, described a situation that leaves few people indifferent. Someone pities the main characters and believes that they must necessarily find each other, others are sure that such meetings between a man and a woman should remain a secret, an unattainable dream and have nothing to do with reality. Who knows if it's worth believing in a sudden passion or need to look for a cause deep in yourself? Perhaps, all "love" is only an enthusiastic fantasy, peculiar to youth?

Ivan Bunin "Sunny Impact" and the school program

It should be noted that this story is included in the school curriculum of compulsory study in literature and is intended for senior schoolchildren - children of sixteen to seventeen. As a rule, at this age the product is perceived in pink tones, appears before the youth with a story about great love. For older people and adults, the product suddenly opens up on the other side and makes us think about the extent to which we are ready to accept love in our life and how we do it. The fact is that in youth it seems that love itself can defeat any obstacles. By the age of twenty-five to thirty, an understanding comes that nothing is given in vain in life, and a feeling like love must be guarded by all the forces of the soul and heart.

An unforgettably powerful work is "The Sunny Impact". Bunin analyzes in him the possibility of a person to accept love in the special circumstances of life and how the heroes cope with this task shows that in most cases people are not able to recognize it at the very beginning and take responsibility for the development of relations. Such love is doomed.

That's what Bunin is talking about in his work "The Sunny Impact". The brief content allows to determine the subject of the story, its composition and ideological component. If you are interested in this description, we recommend that you read the text. "Sunstroke", no doubt, refers to the number of those works that leave a feeling of mild sadness after reading and stay in your memory for a long time.
