Stunning pictures of Aivazovsky - a declaration of love for the sea

The splendor, strength and passion of the sea always attracted the minds and hearts of creative people: poets and artists. However, the most ambitious and expressive recognition of the love for this stormy element was the paintings of Aivazovsky.

Love for life

Ivan Konstantinovich was born on the seacoast, in Feodosia. After graduating from the gymnasium in Simferopol, a young man, obedient to the call of talent, went to St. Petersburg, to the Academy of Arts. After completing his studies with a gold medal, the young artist traveled the world a lot and became increasingly convinced that the theme of the sea would be his main. He was destined to become the founder of marinism in Russian painting. The artist lived his whole life on the seashore, inspired him and revealed to him much of his mysterious life.

Masterpieces of a brush of the genius

Different represent the sea of Aivazovsky's paintings: this is a mighty stormy element, striking imagination with its power and frenzy, it is also the calm, caressing smooth surface, breathing in gentle pink and gold gleams of the evening sun.

Already during the life of the artist it became obvious that he was a genius. More than fifty personal exhibitions, enthusiastic responses of connoisseurs reflected the indisputable gift of the Russian seascape. Pictures Aivazovsky willingly acquired crowned people.

The seascapes of the artist are inexpressibly poetic and romantic, at the same time they are deeply realistic works. In his first works Aivazovsky enthusiastically draws slender military ships on a glossy surface with foggy scallops of waves, he puts the battle theme on the basis of the plot. "The Great Raid in Kronstadt", "The Desant in Subashi" - canvases of that time. Later the painter will more than once write bright battle scenes, expressive and eloquent.

Features of creativity

The best paintings by Aivazovsky are not only remarkable in their astonishing reliability and full of dynamics, they are also deeply philosophical. The picturesque work "Chaos. Creation of the World "the young artist created in Italy, during the trip, which he was awarded for the excellent ending of the Academy of Arts. The basis of the plot was the scenes from the first chapter of the Bible (Genesis). Above the boundless surface of the darkness of the waters embraced, radiance appears - the Spirit of God illumines and sanctifies space, filling it with light. The dazzling white figure of the Godhead seems to be opposed by a black, shapeless shadow, stretched out in futile rage, trying to shield the earth from the invasion of light. But the darkness will not stand, even a moment - and it will disappear, dissipate, will be defeated. Today this work of the Russian master is kept in the collection of the Museum of the Congregation of Mekhitarists in Venice. To the biblical theme Aivazovsky will return twenty years later, having painted on canvas grandiose scenes of the World Flood. Aivazovsky's painting with this name was purchased by Emperor Alexander II in the collection of the Winter Palace. Now it is exhibited in the State Russian Museum of St. Petersburg.

Unusual silence and endless peace is full of the picture "View of the Crimea on a moonlit night." Romantic and fairy-tale sees the brig "Mercury" on the painting of the same name, dedicated to the victory of the Russian fleet over the Turkish ships. The Sinop battle on canvas with the same name appears fierce and ardent. Mysterious and unpredictable naval verses on the artist's late canvas, entitled "Among the Waves".

The Ninth Wave

Stunningly expressive and majestic is this famous painting by Aivazovsky. The sea on it, frantic and beautiful, resists defenseless people trying to survive on the wreckage of the shipwrecked ship.

The light of the nascent morning throws unbearably bright golden spots on the shimmering surface of the water, on which a huge wave rises - the ninth (Saami strong) shaft. The element seems invincible. However, a handful of courageous people in the foreground, being the semantic center of the work, inspires confidence that life will win. Such was the inspirational work of the artist, who created about six thousand picturesque masterpieces adorning the expositions of many museums around the world.
