"Strida" is a bicycle of original design. Overview of popular models, advantages, prices

The request for compact and mobile vehicles in city conditions has been actively growing during the last decades of the twentieth century. The commercial success of many developments in this direction pushed engineers and designers to master and promote new concepts of individual transport. On this wave in the mid-1980s an unusual bike called "Strida" was developed. The bike initially had a rather extravagant appearance, but over the next few years it did not stop the development of conquering an ever larger army of fans. As a result, to date, there are several models and varieties of the design of this invention.

What is the secret of this cyclist? By and large, Mark Sanders did not make any discoveries, but this does not in any way negate the merits of the concept realized by him. The peculiarity of the design is its modest dimensions, which at the same time did not prevent the functionality and reliability of the bicycle. And now you should learn more about the technical features of the Strid models.

Design features of the bicycle

Externally, the bike resembles a large scooter or a device to help people with a wheelchair. In fact, this is a simple construction, assembled from frames, on which you can move, as on an ordinary bicycle. But, of course, bicycles for adults "Strida" have a number of differences. First of all, they are based on an elementary triangular frame made of aluminum. A familiar chain replaces the drive belt, which does not require lubrication. As a rule, such models operate at the same speed and are equipped with disc type brakes . Differences in modifications are most often associated with changes in the size of the wheels or overall dimensions of the bike.

Design Advantages

The main goal of such a radical revision of the classic bicycle was not just to reduce its size, but also to provide convenience in handling the Strid models. The bicycle is easily and quickly disassembled, and also has a small mass - about 10 kg. This made it possible to transport models in small luggage. Being in a tight traffic jam or narrow street, you can safely use such a bike, and then fold it and carry it like a bag.

Mobility and compactness are the main advantages that distinguish the Strid model from older brothers. Along with this simple design saves users from many troubles with maintenance. If there is a need for repair, there will be no problems with it either. On the market there are accessories, accessories and spare parts for the bicycle "Strida", including footboards, brake calipers, pads, pedals from different materials, drive belts, etc.

Model EVO

Like the very design of bicycles, the family of "Strid" is minimal. The line is represented by several models, and one of the most interesting among them is EVO. Actually, the main feature of this modification was the presence of a speed switch. The expediency of implementing this solution is in many people's doubts, but in any case, the expansion of the functionality is not bad. Adherents of traditions can always pay attention to bicycles for adults of this family in basic designs.

The Strida 5.2 model

This version can be considered as a classical one. Despite the fact that she is the representative of the fifth generation of "Strida" bikes, she retained the basic concept of a city mini-bike. So, the model is equipped with a traditional A-frame, 16-inch wheels and has a weight of 9.6 kg. The folding technique is simplified as much as possible and involves three elements of the basic "Strid" design. The bike provides for the analysis of pedals, frames and steering, which takes about 15-20 seconds. As the producer notes, this version is suitable for people up to 192 cm, although there are some doubts on this score. The fact is that there are complaints of touching the knee of the steering wheel during the ride - by the way, this is a common problem of such bicycles, which is corrected only by increasing the rise of the rudder.

Modification of LT

As you can see, there are no special structural differences among themselves in the models - at least, the basic device remains the same. This is also the case with the LT version. And yet this model has one interesting feature, which is deprived of the classic "Strid". The bicycle is supplied with 5-spoke original rims and a plastic luggage compartment. By the way, in the basic version, the trunk is made of aluminum. This is an undoubted plus, as the reliability of storage of things increases. However, the plastic compartment reduces the weight of the bicycle, making it more practical.

How much is?

Based on the first impressions, many make conclusions about the affordability of such bicycles. In part this is true, but everything is relative. The fact is that the basic equipment and, in particular, the LT model will cost 30-35 thousand rubles. The EVO model costs 50-55 thousand rubles. For such money it is possible to get a decent traditional bicycle, but in this case it is still a question of a well-thought-out design and high quality of the materials from which the Breeze "Strida" is made. The Chinese analogue of such models can cost 15-20 thousand, but the quality will be much lower. It is important to understand that only Taiwanese company Ming Cycle possesses the rights to manufacture such bikes today. Fake same models, although they are cheaper, they break right before our eyes, which is confirmed by disappointed owners.

Bicycle Reviews

If we talk about the real representatives of the brand, the opinions will be more likely positive. First of all, cyclists confirm the convenience of operation in any conditions. The advantages of the design are especially noticed by those who used the traditional bicycle before. "Strid", whose reviews are generally favorable, still causes a lot of contradictory judgments. For example, there is an opinion that with its compactness this bike can not provide even minimal convenience in the process of driving. This is partly true and experienced users do not recommend buying such models with the expectation of making long trips. Optimum operating conditions of "Strida" is a flat city path or pavement with a predictable quality of coverage. Also from the councils experienced it is worth mentioning the need for a comfortable seat.

Conclusion

"Strid" is not the only attempt to create a more compact means of individual movement on the basis of a classic bicycle. However, it was Mark Sanders who managed to reduce the size of the structure to the maximum, while leaving a reserve for comfortable movement and quite good functionality. Nevertheless, folding bikes "Strid" have a lot of restrictions. They require a more or less level road, the absence of curbs and other obstacles. A separate group of problems is associated with the winter exploitation of this bike. During this period, you may encounter the need for regular cleaning of the frieze, brakes and pedals. In exchange, the owner of the original bicycle is able to quickly move around the city. And this is at a time when motorists, for example, can stand in a traffic jam for hours or hopelessly suffer with a frozen engine.
