The future musician was born in the Russian capital in 1968 on October 16. When the boy barely fulfilled half a year, his father died - he did not have surgery to remove appendicitis. Then the mother of the boy, Kibitkina Elena (the fashion designer), decided to move to Vladivostok, where Ilya's childhood passed. There he studied at a school where he studied Chinese profoundly, from the second grade, sang in a children's choir. His love for music seemed to have been with him since birth. The boy always tried to earn his own pocket money, he often spent money on vinyl records. And, being in the seventh grade, he decided to create the first group called Boney P.

In 1983, Ilya's group was renamed Mumi Troll. Explain the musician choice of the name could not, he just saw the name of the book Tuve Janson, which he had to liking. After three years of hard work, the band with a slightly changed name - "Mumiy Troll" - actively toured. But Ilya was forced to serve in the Pacific Fleet, and therefore the group's activities were somewhat suspended, which could not but affect the popularity of the team. Lagutenko and the other members of the "Mummies of the Troll" returned to art only in the late 90s. In 1996, recorded the first album in London, and in 1997 - the second (he brought a real success). Ilya became a famous artist, he was invited to the role in the movie (one of the first was the role of a vampire in the "Night Watch"), at various social events. Glory and increased incomes allowed Lagutenko to do what he longed for - charity.

In 1986, the artist met a student at a university in Vladivostok called Lena, and a year later they were already a husband and wife. In 2003, Ilya's marriage broke up. For some time the musician was in a civil marriage with Nadezhda Silenskaya.
