Signs of enteritis in humans

The disease, characterized by the presence of an inflammatory process of the mucosa of the walls of the small intestine, is called enteritis. The emergence of the disease is most often attributed to the neglect of the rules of personal hygiene. However, cases when enteritis in humans appear in the presence of infectious diseases such as Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Campylobacter, Shigella, Clostridium and Staphylococcus aureus are not uncommon in humans. These microorganisms can also affect the large intestine and stomach.

Description of the disease

The primary function of the small intestine is the absorption of water and nutrients. Inflammation, causing swelling of the walls, reduces the area of their surface. As a result, the absorption of nutrients is disturbed, and the water-electrolyte exchange between the intestinal tissues becomes unregulated. This leads to the fact that a large amount of fluid is discharged into the large intestine. In addition, enteritis in humans can cause damage to epithelial cells and the formation of a peptic ulcer. The disease destroys the intestinal microflora, provoking an increase in the number of pathogenic microorganisms.

Chronic enteritis. Symptoms

With a mild disease, the condition of the body is regarded as satisfactory, but a frequent stool is observed. Enteritis in people of severe form causes diarrhea (5-10 times a day), which is accompanied by bloating, pain, loss of appetite, vomiting and nausea. First, the chair looks like a gruel, and then it is transformed into a fetid liquid. With a severe form of the disease, dehydration of the body, a decrease in temperature, intoxication, a decline in heart activity, convulsions.

Chronic enteritis in humans is the cause of metabolic disorders, as a result of which patients quickly lose body weight. This contributes to the development of various types of hypovitaminosis:

  • C. Causes pallor of the skin , glossitis, stomatitis. The person becomes drowsy, irritable, he suffers from loss of appetite;
  • C. In patients with this type of hypovitaminosis bleeding gums, uterine and nasal bleeding, loss of voice, excessive sensitivity of the skin.
  • D, A, K, E. Causes dryness of mucous membranes and skin.

In the event that the disease is detected untimely, it is possible to manifest its severe form.

Treatment

It is very important in this disease to comply with bed rest and the principles of dietary nutrition for five days. The food should be warm. It is recommended to take it several times a day, but in small quantities. You can eat breadcrumbs, tea without sugar, blueberry jelly, puree from lean meat with vegetables or fruit, rice decoction. It is not recommended to eat cold dishes and drinks, kvass, milk, smoked products, condiments and vegetables with coarse fiber.

Enteritis in children

The causes of this disease can be foodborne infection, drug poisoning or allergies.

Quite often, this ailment is observed not in pure form, but in combination with inflammation of the large intestine or stomach.

Acute enteritis in children develops quite rapidly. At an elevated body temperature in a sick child, frequent evacuation of the intestine is observed, which leads to dehydration of the body. In the fecal masses, undigested food predominates. The child becomes passive, languid, weak, pale, he may have convulsions. Often there is a feeling of anxiety and pain in the navel. After taking the liquid, diarrhea begins.

Treatment of acute enteritis should be performed in a hospital setting, observing diet and bed rest. The child is prescribed glucose, salt solutions and sorbents. Usually, after a week, well-being returns, and the sick kid can return to be cured home, but under quarantine conditions, i.e. In isolation.
