Siamese algae - a foolish whale in your aquarium!

Many prefer the aquarium in the apartment to pets - cats, dogs, hamsters or parrots. And this, in principle, is understandable: the variegated variety of fish that cross the clear water, gliding among the decorative debris that twists between the algae, pleases the eye. As for the care of the aquarium, there are no special delicacies here: regular meals, clean water and quality filters will provide your fish with a long and healthy life. One of the fish, which is often "planted" in aquariums, is Siamese algae.

Overseas fish

This fish lives in the waters of the Malay Peninsula and Thailand, from where it was brought back in the 60-70s of the XX century. She quickly fell in love with the owners of aquariums: beautiful and funny, unpretentious and living for a long time - the Siamese algae spread throughout Europe at an enviable rate. His brother, the Chinese algae, dwells in the waters of the Chao Phraya River, which, however, did not prevent him from becoming an equally welcome guest in the aquariums of Europeans. Due to their peaceful disposition, algaeids do not have problems with neighbors, however these are very active creatures, so apathetic and passive fish can be somewhat uncomfortable to be with them in a small reservoir.

Life in captivity

Siamese algae has a distinctive feature, which is displayed in its name, is the only fish that feeds on red algae. Preference algae leaves for young plants; When growing fish in an aquarium, make sure that there is enough vegetation in it - otherwise they will eat up all the moss. As for the water tanks in which you plan to plant algae, they should be large enough (in captivity Siamese algaeids can grow to 15 cm) and are provided with a lid (this is a very jumping fish and will certainly take the opportunity to leave an uncovered aquarium). It is funny to watch this fish when it rests: unlike other fish, the algaeid does not sleep on the stomach, but fixes the body in a slightly elevated position and leans on the tail and back fins.

Features of the individual

A long black strip from the nose to the beginning of the tail with a zigzag edge is a feature that differs from other fish Siamese algae. Content in captivity is completely unproblematic, since the fish is unpretentious, well coexists with other fish and can disturb the rest of aquarium waters, only chasing after the representatives of its species. To the algaeid live in an aquarium and at the same time not create unnecessary problems, at the time when they grow especially intensively, "move" them into a small closing aquarium, and then return it back. Unfortunately, the youngest are the most beautiful; And over time algaeids cease to feed on algae and switch to other food, which is very unprofitable. Deciding to decorate your aquarium with algae, take care that the water in the tank is saturated with oxygen - due to poor breathing, fish need high-quality aeration of water. Having created the conditions necessary for a full life of algae, you will be rewarded in full: a cheerful jumping fish will surely please you with its active behavior, funny habits and inexhaustible energy.
