Short chain - one of the elements of rigging

Currently, a wide popularity among a wide variety of fastening elements has been acquired by metal chains consisting of oval (rounded) units connected by a welding apparatus. The reason for the demand is a diversified appointment. They can be used both in domestic needs and in industrial ones. Depending on the purpose, the chains are divided into economic and technical. As a rule, round-link chains are used for moving, holding, hanging loads, as well as in load-gripping mechanisms in the form of separate elements.

Steel chains are used on construction sites, warehouses, industrial workshops, transport organizations. One of the ways of using chains is the suspension for hooks of large load-lifting machines.

According to the shape of the link, the metal chains are divided into:

• Long-chain;
• Short-link.

The short chain chain is a popular kind of rigging, used for stretching. According to the requirements of the International Standard DIN 766 (analog 5685A), it is produced calibrated and uncalibrated. This chain is made of bars of alloyed, carbon, high-alloy steels of different diameters and has a galvanic coating in the form of a zinc layer.
The size of the chain is determined by the caliber of the link (rod diameter). The links of the chain differ from each other in length, width and caliber (diameter).

The short chain has a shortened link, so it is designed for increased loads and is considered more reliable and durable. But for lifting the load, it is not recommended to use it. Supplied in coils that are wound on plastic coils from 10 meters to 60 meters long. The length in the bay depends on the diameter of the link.

When choosing a particular steel chain, you need to know the following characteristics:

• Breaking load is the maximum load that a short-link metal chain withstands to failure during a tensile test;
• Working load - the largest mass that can be hung on the chain in the conditions of its operation;
• Step chain - the internal length of the link in the widest part.

The chain is set with auxiliary rigging elements: carbines, turnbuckles, swivels, chain connectors and other connections.

The short-chain welded chain has a wider range of uses - from light hand hoists to heavy lifting cranes. The links with butt-contact welding are made with one joint. After manufacturing, the chain is subjected to a test for the inspection of the weld and the test load. It works perfectly for stretching and has a small coefficient of stretching. The circuit design allows to freely regulate the length and has a relative degree of freedom limited only by one link, and also create a loop using the "link-to-link" method.
