Geography and climate

The village of Belaya Gora (Yakutia) is located in the Republic of Sakha. It, in turn, occupies the sixth part of Russia. A little less than half of the whole area is beyond the Arctic Circle, including the White Mountain.

From October to April, the season with negative air temperatures lasts. The Asian anticyclone is of decisive importance for the weather in the winter. Despite severe frosts (in January the air temperature can drop to -55 ° C), there is almost never a wind. Snow falls out quite a bit. Rarely, when the level of snow cover reaches a height of 25 cm or more. The reason for this is dry air.

Summer in these parts is very short, but warm. The average temperature in July is + 19 ° C. But there is a big difference between night and day temperatures. If we talk about record air temperatures, then they can exceed + 35 ° С.

Transitional periods from summer to winter and back are very short. So in the autumn the temperature very quickly ceases to rise above 0 ° С. And the spring and does not feel at all because of the lack of a strong melting snow. There is practically no water, and the existing snow cover evaporates under the influence of dry air.

Since Yakutia is considered a place of permafrost, even a hot summer sun can only melt a couple of centimeters of the upper soil layer. In deeper layers, the temperature does not reach positive values even at the end of summer.

Modern life

In periods when the Lena River is not covered with ice, it is the main channel for delivering goods to the village. First, the goods are transferred to the river vessels of the Belogorsky port from the sea. The airport operates all year round and accepts cargo aircraft. In winter, they are the only way to deliver the necessary goods, products, medicines.

The constantly frozen soil has a decisive influence on many life processes in the settlement of Belaya Gora, Yakutia and the whole region. Because of the permafrost there is a serious problem with the water supply of settlements. It is also important to monitor the health of the heating system. When road construction has to use a special system of alternate thawing of soil and its freezing. What adversely affects the timing of work and their cost.

But for underground works permafrost is a big plus. There are guarantees that there will not be a collapse, that is, no additional fastening is required.

The village of White Mountain (Yakutia), despite the fact that it is quite developed and modern, a little populated. People living here work mainly in agriculture and the socio-budgetary sector of the economy.
