Sergey Baruzdin: biography of a children's writer

Once upon a time there was a pope,

Very kind,

Only came late

And I took work home.

This mom was angry.

These lines belong to the Soviet writer and poet Sergei Baruzdin. Simple and uncomplicated, but at the same time warm, like a summer rain, they remain in our memory for a long time.

The writer lived and worked at a time when literature was closely monitored by censorship. All the works that came out were supposed to glorify Soviet power. Seldom did any of the writers manage to create a work that was not politicized, but Sergei Baruzdin did it.

All his work illuminates the warm light of humanity and love for people. He did not read morality and preaching, he showed both his creativity and his life, how to live, so that it would be good not only to himself loved, but to all people around. He was called a real friend of children.

In his entire life, the writer wrote more than 200 books for children and adults. The total circulation of his works is about 100 million copies. Books were published in about 70 languages. His work was highly appreciated by Nadezhda Krupskaya and Lev Kassil, Konstantin Simonov and Maria Prilezhayeva.

He was born in Moscow in 1926. Dad wrote poetry and son also taught to love poetry. Everything turned out very well: his works were printed in the school wall newspaper, and then in the journal Pioneer and the newspaper Pionerskaya Pravda. Nadezhda Krupskaya paid attention to the young talent and sent him to the literary studio of the House of Pioneers.

New acquaintances with interesting people, occupation with the favorite thing - life was easy and beautiful, but everything changed, and the familiar world collapsed in a few hours, when the Great Patriotic War began. A few months after that, my father died. Grief and death quickly burst into the world of fantasies and dreams of a young poet.

Sergei was only 14 years old, and he was eager for the front, but there he was not taken for obvious reasons. A year after the outbreak of the war, attributing to himself a couple of years, he already fought in artillery intelligence, took part in the defense of Moscow, took Berlin and liberated Prague. Was awarded orders and medals. More expensive than all other awards was the medal "For the Defense of Moscow".

After the war he entered the Literary Institute named after M. Gorky. After graduating from it, he was the editor of the journals Pioneer and Friendship of Peoples. Worked in the board of the Writers' Union of the USSR. Sergei Baruzdin died on March 4, 1991.

At 39, Baruzdin became the editor of not the most popular publication in the Soviet Union. The magazines that were read were "New World", "October", "Banner". "The friendship of the peoples" was called "the mass grave of brotherly literatures," and this issue was not in demand at all.

But thanks to Sergei Baruzdin, K. Simonov, Yu. Trifonov, V. Bykov, A. Rybakov and others not only known but also unknown to anyone else were published in it. Many national writers and poets became popular only after publication in the "Friendship of Peoples". Baruzdin always had problems with censorship, but he was able to defend writers and defend his position.

After the publication of the magazine to all the authors who were published in this issue, he wrote letters with gratitude for the work. And the size of the publication had no value: from the novel to a short note.

Baruzdin was able to make the "Friendship of Peoples" one of the most beloved and readable in the Soviet Union. True, however bitter it may be, it has become one of the features that distinguish the magazine. On its pages the Russian and translated literature was perfectly combined.

The formation of the writer's personality was greatly influenced by the war. He went to the front as a boy, but came as a soldier who had seen a lot. At first he wrote about the war. These were stories, but the writer did not describe the horrors, but funny stories that happened on the front with him and his comrades.

In 1951, the author wrote a book, which is one of his business cards. This is a trilogy about the girl Svetlana. At the beginning of the book, she is three years old, the girl is only acquainted with the huge world that surrounds her. Short stories describe cases from her life. Simply and understandably, Baruzdin teaches the reader important things: responsibility for the deed, respect for the elders, help for the elderly, and much more.

Almost fifteen years after the war, he wrote an autobiographical novel, "Repetition Passed." A large time span covers the book: peacetime, years of confrontation and post-war time. Baruzdin wrote about how hard it was for the war yesterday schoolchildren and schoolgirls, and how early home boys and girls became warriors defending their homeland. Truthfulness and sincerity are the distinguishing features of this book. At first it was written for an adult reader, and later it was remade for children by Sergei Baruzdin.

Poetry and prose, as well as journalism, this writer wrote. He has many books for children, in which he introduces them to the history of our homeland: "There was a soldier on the street" and "The country where we live". Also there were books about the Great Patriotic War: "Tonya from Semenovka" and "Her name is Elka". There were also works about animals: "Ravi and Shashi" and "How the Snowball has come to India". In addition, it should be noted a collection of literary essays called "People and Books".
