Sampler for petroleum products: purpose and classification

In the oil industry, much attention is paid to product quality control. In order to determine the most important qualities of liquid fuel, a sampler for petroleum products is needed, a device through which samples of the product are taken with preservation of the sampling conditions.

The presented instruments and means are used both in the field, for obtaining samples from bore holes, and for taking samples from various tanks - tanks, oil pipelines, technological columns, in order to check the storage conditions. To obtain the most reliable result, all works are carried out by specially trained personnel.

Purpose of samplers

Samples are necessary for any enterprise whose activities are closely connected with oil or oil products. Their main purpose is to take samples from storage or transportation sites. The resulting samples are further subjected to multilevel analysis. Based on the results of laboratory tests, the conformity of the product to the requirements of GOST and other normative documents is determined. A modern sampler for petroleum products must be manufactured in accordance with the requirements set forth in GOST R15150-69. The vast majority of devices are designed to operate at temperatures from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius and with a kinematic viscosity index of up to 11 cSt.

Types of samplers according to purpose

Today, samplers are complex devices that differ from each other in their characteristics and application. According to the design, all devices for taking samples can be divided into the following groups:

1. The bottom sampler for oil products removes samples only from the bottom or bottom space.
2. Point devices that take samples of a product at a specific location or at a specific time are most often used in oil pipelines.
3. Multilevel instruments allow to take samples simultaneously in several points, very often used on oil bases, gas stations.
4. Automatic devices, which are necessary for automatic collection of samples as the product passes through the pipeline.
5. Sectional samplers are stationary installations with a number of sections, which are installed in vertical tanks.

Each sampler consists of two nodes - a receiving chamber that takes samples of the product, and a control device that opens the valve allowing fluid to enter the receiving chamber.

Classification of devices according to the design

There are also samplers for petroleum products portable and stationary. The first type of equipment is used to remove samples from mobile storage. Stationary devices are most often used in large enterprises, where they operate with large volumes of oil and its products. They, in turn, are divided into several varieties:

1. Integral, forming an average sample, which is taken from each layer.
2. Portion, which provide samples taken from different points located along the height of the column of matter.
3. Portion-integral - the average sample is formed from several samples taken at different levels.

Portable devices are cylindrical vessels made from a non-sparking steel with a resistant anticorrosive coating. Any portable sampler for petroleum products has a lid with an air valve and a fluoroplastic stopper with a hole. In the plug hole is fixed the rod, which holds the metal cable.

Types of sampler drives

Any sampler for sampling petroleum products is equipped with either an automatic or manual unlocking mechanism.

In any case, the removal of samples is carried out at the request of the operator. In automated devices, the locking device can obey three types of drives:

1. Electrical.
2. Electromagnetic.
3. Pneumatic.

The first two types can have remote or analog control, and the valve operates according to the drive or according to the instructions of the electromagnet. A pneumatic sampler for oil products removes the sample after reaching a certain depth, where the medium pressure reaches the set value.
