Russian biathlete Olga Vilukhina: biography, success, photo

This very young, but already famous athlete, her first significant victory in international competitions won in 2006 at the World Championships. She took part in junior competitions when she was only 14 years old. Olga Vilukhina then won not only a sprint, but deserved two more medals: in the relay - silver, in the pursuit - bronze.

Olga was born in 1988 in Bashkortostan (Mezhgore), on March 22. Her parents: father - GV Vilukhin, once worked as a civil engineer, mother - O.V. Vilukhin, operator of a local boiler house.

Initially, Olga Vilukhina was engaged in skiing at a sports school. Her parents brought her there. However, in this form the girl did not have everything, and she was invited to engage in biathlon. This was a landmark event in the beginning of the sporting career of Oli.

In the general education school, she studied well, read a lot since childhood. She has a favorite novel by Paolo Coelho "Eleven Minutes".

As noted above, the first significant victory for the athlete was at the World Junior Biathlon Championships in 2006, held in America (Presque Isle). There she did not develop only an individual race, where she took 26th place. In these competitions, she fought with athletes of high international level. It should be noted that at that time Viluhina biathlon was only engaged for 2 years.

The following serious competitions for her were in Martello, where the Biathlon World Championships were also held. But here she could not repeat her previous result and won a silver medal (second place) in the relay race.

The most successful in the sports career of a talented sportswoman was the European Championship, held in Ufa (2009). Then Olga Vilukhina became four times champion of Europe among young athletes. At these junior competitions the girl was able to climb the pedestal in all 4 stages of the competition, taking 1st place.

Great achievements have not gone unnoticed by representatives of the national team of the country. She was invited to take part in the competitions in Khanty-Mansiysk (the Cup stage). Thus, she was in the lists of the six best sportswomen and joined the team of the Russian team.

Further successes

As part of the Russian national team, the girl first went to Oberhov for trainings, where she suddenly fell ill. In this regard, she never took part in any Cup race and even missed some stages of the IBU Cup. In the 2010/2011 season, Olga again took part in the very first stages of the World Cup, and then her health failed again.

After the illness Viluhina twice won the leading places in sprints, held in Italy and Sweden. But at the IBU Cup Olga Vilukhina remained without a prize because of an absurd mistake, inattention. She forgot to put her number on, and while they were running after him, the sportswoman started with a hitch and was delayed for 40 seconds. Exactly this time and separated it from the winner of the competition.

Season in 2011-2012. Brought the athlete success. In Hochfilzen, she won together with the team in the mixed relay race and took bronze in the race in Ruhpolding.

In 2013, at the World Cup, biathlete Olga Vilukhina rose to second place.

Olympics in Sochi - the first Olympic Games for a 25-year-old athlete. In this regard, no one really put any hope on her. However, it surprised many when, on the 7.5-kilometer race, Olympic silver won.

She felt quite confident and did her best not to yield to the titled Slovak Olympic champion Anastasia Kuzmina. Vilukhina, having perfectly shot herself, lost to Kuzmina only in speed.

Olga Vilukhina was able to end up repeatedly on the podium after winning team relay races (both female and mixed). By right, she is a regular at TOP-10 of the best sportsmen in Russia. True, she has not yet reached an individual award of the highest standard. She still lies ahead.
