"Ruby Sparks" - hipster kinovariant myth of Pygmalion

"Ruby Sparks" is an intelligent romantic comedy directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.

Creators

Zoe Kazan, the granddaughter of the eminent literary and cinematographer Elia Kazan, wrote the script for the modern version of the myth about Galatea and Pygmalion for the film version, and the 2006 film directors, the film "Little Miss Happiness", the couple Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton shot the film. The main role in the comedy was also played by Zoey, and her real-life lover became the shooting partner, the deceased young man who did not part with Nietzsche's volume in the same "Little Miss Happiness", Paul Dano.

For the director's couple, who previously made clips for world-famous artists, the debut in the big cinema was a melancholic family comedy, highly appreciated by world critics. The second film "Ruby Sparks" is very similar to the debut project: both pictures are a soothing genre cinema with an unobtrusive presence of a share of intellectualism and irony, not particularly affecting the effect of viewing, but making pictures deliberately "shameless."

Plot. String

The comedy "Ruby Sparks" (2012) introduces the audience to the main character - the shy young writer Kelvin Werfields (actor Paul Dano), who in an incomplete 19 years released one novel, and then positioned as the hope of modern American literature. But the public's hopes were not justified: the hero fell into a deep personal and creative crisis. He talked only with his Scotty dog, a brutal but stupid brother and therapist.

Once his daily routines are disturbed by a wonderful dream, in which Kelvin dreams a charming red-haired artist Ruby. On the rise of the emotional wave, the writer begins to create a new novel, in which he describes in detail his relationship with the dreamed girl. The hero every day more and more immersed in an imaginary feeling, and his beloved in an incomprehensible way materializes. In the bachelor home women's things begin to appear. One day, waking up, Calvin discovers in his kitchen a fictional beauty (actress Zoe Kazan).

Intrigue

Further, the main character of the comedy "Ruby Sparks", resigned to the impossibility of what is happening, begins to enjoy the inexplicable origin of the romantic idyll. However, after a short period of cloudless happiness, it is found that a relationship with an imaginary girl has the same problems as in real life: fatigue, disagreements in tastes and likes, scandals and hysteria. But the writer has a trouble-free way of eliminating the problems that have arisen - a typewriter. Kelvin now and then makes adjustments to the image of his beloved, thereby knocking down the settings before a real catastrophe. With all its oddity, the plot line of Ruby Sparks exactly follows the course and pace of the development of the canonical romantic film.

Decoupling (without spoilers)

The "Rubi Sparks" denouement is fully worthy of the storyline, although the skeptical viewer may have the impression that it all ended too sweetly and smoothly. There is a feeling that at the culmination moment the creators of the picture begin to be cautious, deliberately reducing all the unhappy possibilities of ending the development of the plot to one episode. But this choice only strengthens the commercial potential of the film, one of the most ridiculous and romantic comedies since the "500 days of summer".

Actors

It should be noted that not only the creators coped with the task perfectly, but the actor's ensemble of paintings made an invaluable contribution to the creation of the masterpiece. The performers of the main roles are very attractive. The stories, which the actors of the first plan narrate Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan, you believe, their characters sympathize and empathize. The ability of an actor's duet to create and present to the viewer a correct (vital, not glossy-ideal) story, such that the viewer has penetrated and believed, you can only admire unrestrainedly.

Zoe Kazan is an amazing person, her parents are scriptwriters. Mother was the co-author of the screenplay of the film, which became exemplary ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"), and my father wrote the script for the movie "Wrong Side", so no one doubted her success in the screenwriter. But the girl surprised the public by demonstrating outstanding acting skills in the movie "Ruby Sparks". The actors who worked with her were surprised by her talent for reincarnation.

Actors of the second plan, Steve Coogan as the literary agent Kelvin, Annette Bening, who played the hippy mother of the writer, and Antonio Banderas, who embodied the image of stepfather-sculptor on screen, despite the greater acting experience and much more impressive filmography, did not overshadow the performers of the main roles.

The film received positive reviews and is recommended for viewing by many viewers.
