Rotavirus: treatment and symptoms

Attention! Nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and signs of intoxication, runny nose and coughing - your baby, most likely, rotavirus. This disease is viral and most often they are affected by children. Moreover, infection is the cause of almost half of all children's dysbiosis. Studies have shown that most children older than five years in the blood have antibodies to the virus, which means that the body met with him and developed an immune response.

Course of the disease

From 15 hours to seven days, the incubation period of the disease lasts. Initial The stage is acute. However, the intestinal syndrome, intoxication symptoms increase gradually, and reach the maximum values from 12 hours to a day from the first symptoms that the rotavirus provoked. Treatment than before will be started, the greater the chances of preventing dehydration of the body, which can be caused by vomiting and intestinal dysfunction. Weakness, lethargy, decreased appetite - these symptoms characterize the intoxication of the body. The most frequent symptom is diarrhea. The chair in this case becomes watery and liquid, in some cases - with an admixture of mucus.

Before treating rotavirus infection in children, doctors conduct diagnostic studies aimed at establishing the exact causative agent of the disease. After the collection of anamnesis, a laboratory diagnosis is carried out, which is aimed at detecting in the feces or antibodies in the blood of an infection such as rotavirus. Treatment depending on the data obtained can be adjusted and supplemented. The examination is best conducted on 1-4 days from the onset of the onset of the disease.

Rotavirus treatment

Of paramount importance is pathogenetic therapy aimed at the restoration of electrolytes and fluids, which were the result of an infection such as rotavirus. The diet should be not only during the acute course, but also within a few weeks after recovery: milk and dairy products, as well as foods rich in carbohydrates, are removed from the baby's diet completely. This is due, above all, to the fact that viral diarrhea takes place Lactose intolerance. In the event that the child is on artificial feeding, the basis of his diet should be made by fermented milk. Breastfeeding, if possible, is preserved with the "rotavirus" infection. The treatment consists in taking funds, the action of which is directed to adsorption. These include polyphepan, activated carbon, smectite. Do not give antipyretics, if the temperature does not exceed 38.5 degrees (with a predisposition to convulsions less than 38 degrees), because the cells of the virus die precisely at this temperature regime.

Rehydration (restoration of the water balance) is carried out by glucose-saline solutions: oralite, rehydron, citroglyukostan. If it has a severe form of rotavirus, treatment includes infusion therapy (the introduction of special solutions directly into the blood).

The use of antibiotics is not advisable, since they do not have the necessary effect on viruses. Assign them only to young children and only if the infection is of a mixed nature (viral-bacterial).

The virus is transmitted not only by airborne droplets from person to person, but also through water. Therefore, one of the preventive measures is the use of boiled water and milk.
