Romanesque style in architecture imitates the Roman

One of the most ancient is the Romanesque style in architecture. The peak of its popularity falls on the X century, and it lasted more than 300 years. Readers can ask a question about why in architecture. I answer: the Romance style first of all arose precisely in this direction and, developing, reached significant heights. This name was given to him because of the considerable similarity with the ancient Roman architecture.

Roman style. Its features

In the Х-ХІІ it was the Romanesque style in architecture that covered the whole of Western Europe and some countries of the East. As a sample was taken Roman basilica, the structure of which formed the basis of this direction. Perhaps, for this reason, in the Romanesque style, it was built churches and castle structures. Their main feature was the huge stone walls, towers and arches. In general, the building looked like a fortified protective structure. Because of its majesty, it perfectly fit into any natural environment, massive walls and narrow small windows perfectly in harmony with the grayness of the stone. In general, the castle looked like a ready fortification for war or defense. R

The Romanesque style in architecture differed from its predecessors by one feature - the dungeon is a huge tower around which everything else was attached. Thanks to such breading, in those days temples-fortresses and castles-fortresses were most often erected.

Features:

- in the basis of the layout - the Roman basilica;

- increase in space;

- simplicity: marble floor, Venetian plaster walls, tiles with drawings;

- the architects tried to show not the exterior beauty and splendor of the temple, but the beauty of the spirit, so they were not much decorated;

- built in the form of a rectangle or cylinder;

- The height of the temple and the choir increases.

The transition from Romanistic to Gothic

The columns of the temples performed a very important function, as they held the entire heavy construction of the temple, stone walls. Arches, as mandatory elements, served not so much decoration, but as a sign of the power of the temple. This was a sculpture of the Romanesque style: a minimum of beauty and greatness, but a maximum of simplicity and sincerity. In contrast to the Gothic style, which came to replace it, all the elements were consistent and simple. Romance and Gothic styles were completely different.

The main advantage of the second was the new Gothic frame, which allowed the weight to be distributed between the holders, and as a result, many elements of the temple ceased to perform the function of solely carriers. This discovery replaced the Romanesque style in architecture. A well-known representative of the Gothic style is the Rhine Cathedral, which is distinguished by majesty and wealth. In fact, Gothic became the complete opposite of the Romanics, because the lush interior, majesty from the outside, a lot of jewelry and sculptures were put in opposition to Romanic modesty. As a result of the distribution of weight between the holders, most of the temple was freed from bulky columns. Gothic architecture reached a peak of popularity during the Middle Ages (late XII - XVI century), and replaced by a famous Renaissance style.

His contribution to the development of world architecture, Romanesque and Gothic styles brought. The first showed that even a modest architecture can be beautiful, and the second opened a new Gothic frame to the world.
