Rifled weapons, its types, applications

The rifled weapon appeared after the smoothbore, when it became necessary to shoot more accurately in combat. But the first copies were used for a long time only by a limited circle of soldiers; Recharging required considerable time compared to smoothbore rifles, and besides the production of rifles at first was very expensive.

Gradually, rifled weapons were improved, and today there are several of its types.

Screw cuttings inside the trunk have all kinds of firearms (rifles, carbines, automatic weapons, etc.), some types of civil (for example, sport rifled, hunting rifled or combined rifles, carbines, etc.). The distance between these cuts determines its caliber:

- small-bore (5-6 mm);

Bullets for rifled weapons are subdivided into shell, semi-shell and shell-free. The latter were simple lead balls, which in the old days were charged from the barrel, they are not currently used. Then shell-shaped bullets appeared and, after a rather long period of time, half-shells, possessing increased damaging abilities, but less precision. To date, they are used in military and sporting activities, ammunition is improved and new types are created (tracer, offset center, for noiseless shooting, explosive, and others). For hunting purposes, half-shell bullets will be improved. Although in our country for hunting more use shotguns and carbines, but due to changes in requirements for hunting trophies (causing minimal damage), there is a growing demand for rifled weapons. Modern cartridges for him ideally should meet the following requirements:

- to possess range and accuracy of flight;

- have a stopping action;

- have controlled expansiveness;

- to save your weight as much as possible;

- cause minimal damage.

To date, these requirements are met by all-metal versions and bullets having a sheath connected to the core. But they produce mainly those that belong to the category of fragmentation.

Combined weapons include both smooth and rifled barrels, which is why it is suitable for various types of hunting (both for poultry and bear), but it also has a more significant weight than its "relatives".
