Rifle AWP: photos, characteristics

In the early 1980s, the British Army announced a contest for new sniper rifles that were supposed to replace the obsolete Enfield L42 models. Among the various samples of small arms, the expert commission marked sniper rifles AWP - products of the British company Accuracy International. This model of the Arctic Warfare series, becoming the winner in the competition, under the designation L96 was adopted by the British Army. This article describes the description and characteristics of the AWP rifle.

What does Arctic Warfare mean?

The AWP rifle (pictured in the article) was created specifically for the army. The title of the series is translated from English as "Arctic fighting" (AW). The letter P (Polize) indicates that this model is intended for use by law enforcement agencies. L96 is the release number of this weapon. Thanks to the special design features of the AWP rifles, they can be used at temperatures below 40 degrees.

Description

A distinctive feature of the AWP rifle from other sniper models is the unusual design of its lodge. As the basis for it, the English developers used an aluminum beam, to which the barrel, receiver and USM are attached. The bed itself consists of two plastic halves, attached on both sides to an aluminum beam. It is also called a "chassis". Thus, a rigid frame made of aluminum alloy is the place for fixing all parts of the rifle. The design is characterized by increased rigidity, which positively affected the accuracy of the fight. In addition, the owner of this model of weapons does not have any difficulties during the maintenance of the rifle.

All its parts are very carefully adjusted, than their wear and tearing is excluded. When installing the receiver, an epoxy resin is used as an adhesive. First, the box of the master is placed on the glue, and then screwed to the frame. On the surface of the barrels and the trunks themselves, a special epoxy coating of black, green or camouflage shades is applied. Some rifles are painted in olive color.

AWP is a magazine rifle equipped with a sliding slide. With its help, the weapon is locked. The turning angle of the shutter in AWP, like in other modern models of similar design, is reduced to 60 degrees. The front of the rifle contains three warheads for the bolt. The fourth function is performed by its rotary handle. It is equipped with a massive ball-shaped knob, due to which it is quite easy to operate it. The stroke of the shutter does not exceed 10 cm, the impactor to the primer - 6 mm. Thanks to this, it takes a little time to operate the rifle mechanism.

The weapon is equipped with a special anti-icing design: for the shutter, longitudinal grooves are provided, which allow it to work reliably at a very low temperature. The effort of descent is not more than 2 kg. The arrows have appreciated the high efficiency of the trigger mechanism: it functions well even in a state of severe pollution. Locking the lock handle and locking the trigger and impactor are carried out by a fuse. When using this sniper rifle, random shots are excluded.

Buttstock device

The appliance is equipped with a special hole for the thumb and an emphasis for the cheek, which if necessary can easily be adjusted in height. Completed sniper rifle with replaceable obtuscles. They have different thicknesses, which makes it possible to adapt them to the individual parameters of the shooters. Mount the jaws to the base of the rifle. Mounting can be adjusted in vertical and horizontal planes. Due to this design feature, the rifle is convenient to use in different positions.

Sights

For the AWP rifles, open sighting devices and optical sights are provided. They are installed on the Weaver strips. The installation process is simple and takes only a few seconds. In addition to optical sights, you can also use mechanical sights when firing. It is designed for a distance of up to 800 meters. The mechanical sight is represented by a height-adjustable flies, for which special protective pads are provided. The fly can contain two types of lintels:

• "Swedish". The English manufacturer it is made for the armed forces of Sweden. This goal is designed for a distance of 200 to 600 meters. Adjustable in the horizontal plane.
• "Belgian". Designed for the Armed Forces of Belgium. This bar is an unregulated folding, dioptric product. It is designed for a distance of at least 400 meters.

Trunk

Rifles are equipped with heavy match trunks. For their manufacture, stainless steel is used. The barrel - free-oscillating, is equipped with a special thread, on which it is mounted in the receiver. Also, the barrel is equipped with a locking ring and grooves for the fighting stops. In some barrels of rifles, the presence of flame arresters, muzzle brakes and mufflers is not excluded. In sniper rifles in this series, there may be integrated silencers.

Fighting

The sniper rifle is produced for the cartridges of the NATO sample of caliber 7.62 mm. They are contained in steel removable box-type stores. The store capacity is five ammunition.

The battle is carried out from a mechanical metal store. As a munition in a pneumatic rifle special balls are used, the weight of which is 0.2 grams. The store capacity is 35 balls. The weapon has an initial velocity of 100 to 140 m / s. The shooter non-combat model can be purchased for 9 thousand rubles.
