Really, even one cigarette a day shortens life?

New research shows that even one cigarette a day can seriously shorten the life expectancy. It turns out that the previous stereotypes that smoking can be harmless, were completely mistaken!

Fresh information

Researchers compared the life expectancy of those who constantly smoke no more cigarettes per day, and those who never smoked at all. It turned out that smoking, even if irregular, increases the risk of premature death for a person by sixty-four percent. People who smoke more, up to ten cigarettes daily, increase the risk of premature death by eighty-seven percent.

Probability of lung cancer

The researchers also decided to analyze the relationship between the likelihood of lung cancer and nicotine in people who smoke very little. It turned out that the probability of dying due to a tumor for them is still nine times higher than for those who never smoked at all. For those who smoke more, the probability is twelve times higher. In short, the difference is not that great. Of course, the study also has some limitations - most of the subjects were old and only white, and the information was based on the memories of the survey participants who talked about their lifestyle in the last fifteen years. Nevertheless, these studies do have weight. Of particular interest is that many of the smokers who participated in the polls were confident that irregular smoking does not cause serious harm to health and does not reduce the years allocated to a person. Scientists deny this fact, saying that the safe impact of tobacco simply can not be. They published all the data of the new study indicating that even one cigarette a day could become a real disaster for human health.
