Pump VAZ-2110: device and replacement

The pump is one of the most important and irreplaceable parts, which is installed absolutely on all modern cars. This element is a pump that provides forced circulation of antifreeze in the engine cooling system (ODS). On the VAZ machines of the tenth "family" it happens to be exclusively closed type, with forced circulation. Characteristic of the element

In total, two types of coolant pumps are distinguished in the automotive world - with a mechanical or electric drive. In the first case the drive is carried out from the distributor or crankshaft of the internal combustion engine using a belt transmission. In the case of the electric one, all this is done by one electric motor, which has its own control system. Regardless of the type and dimensions of the machine, this pump is installed only in the front of the engine. VAZ-2110 is no exception.

The device of this part assumes the presence of a centrifugal pump . In addition, the design of this element includes an impeller and a housing. The first part is most often mounted on a shaft with a pulley. The body can be either cast iron or aluminum. It has special channels for drawing and removing the antifreeze to the impeller. A gasket is placed between the pump body and the engine cylinder assembly. It does not allow the coolant to flow out of the pump.

Working wheel

The impeller, or the impeller, is one of the most important elements of the pump, which circulates the antifreeze in the system. This part is a set of blades of a special shape and is mounted on the drive shaft. The latter is located in the body on the bearings. The drive pulley is located on the opposite side of the shaft.

Replacement and installation of the pump (VAZ-2110 and 2112)

Let's start with the dismantling. First of all, remove the wire from the negative battery terminal. Then drain the coolant from the car. For convenience, you can remove the adsorber. It is dismantled without touching the wires and hoses. Then we remove the covers from the engine and install the piston I of the cylinder in the position of the top dead center (that is, when the compression stroke should take place).

Then take the jack and lift the front of the car. We remove the right wheel. Further we take out rollers and a pulley of a cam-shaft. This is done as follows:

  1. First, the tension rollers are loosened, then they are removed together with the timing belt. Be careful! After this, do not crank and camshaft, as the piston can hit the valves.

  2. Unscrew the camshaft gear. Pay attention to the fragility of the teeth.

  3. We dismantle the pulley.

In the next step, remove the plastic pump cover. Since one of his mounting bolts is at the bottom, you have to climb under the car. Then a pump will appear before our eyes. The VAZ-2110, fortunately, is easy to maintain, so removing the coolant pump will not be difficult. First remove the three mounting hexahedrons. Further under the pump of a cooling liquid the container is put. It will be useful to us when removing the element, since here the leakage of antifreeze will be inevitable.

What do I need to know when installing?

Everything, from our car the old pump is successfully extracted. The VAZ-2110 is further manned with a new part. You can do it without any special tools. In principle, the installation of the pump (VAZ-2110, 2112) is done in the reverse order, similar to the removal, but here it is necessary to note several important points.

First, the new part must contain lubricant. Often, she is already present there. But if it's not there, be sure to lubricate the element. Secondly, if the VAZ pump of the 2110th model has a paper gasket, we put on it a sealant and wait 10-15 minutes until it dries. After you can install the part in place.

Why do I need an additional pump on the VAZ-2110?

Very often the owners of domestic cars are asking about the installation of an additional coolant pump. As a result of the operation of the two pumps, it is possible to significantly increase the efficiency of the heater at idle engines. And if before that the stove blew at 1000 rpm with only warm air, then after the upgrade to the salon there will already be a hot stream. In addition, when moving in the coolant system, the pump will ensure good circulation, which could not be achieved with a single pump.

Particularly relevant is the installation of an additional coolant pump for car owners living in the northern latitudes, where there is a significant shortage of power of the stove at an ambient temperature of minus 20-25 degrees Celsius. And since our cars are not able to normally heat the cabin in this winter, installing a second pump is the only effective way to improve the situation. By the way, this technology has long been practiced on cars BMW and Mercedes. So with an additional pump your iron friend will be one step closer to a foreign car.
