Preobrazhenskaya Square, Moscow. Metro station "Preobrazhenskaya ploshchad"

When walking through the streets of Moscow, if you are a tourist, the probability of wading into the Preobrazhenskaya Square is not too great. There are no bright and memorable sights here. Another district, almost the outskirts of the city. Office buildings, shops, Sberbank - Preobrazhenskaya Square today looks rather prosaic. Let's turn around and look into the distant past, where everything was just beginning. And gradually we will reach our days.

The origin of the empire

The main streets and the Transfiguration Square itself appeared in the 17th century, during the reign of Peter I. Here he spent his young years and created the famous comic regiment, which eventually became an excellent program for the training of regular troops of the European model. It was here several centuries ago that the Russian army was founded.

If we talk about the construction of the city, then it was here that the layout of the neighborhoods arose. And even the very first theater was opened in these places. Unfortunately, up to now, the original architecture of the district has not been preserved. But imagination can turn back time.

In the depths of centuries

Once the street Preobrazhenskaya and the square were part of the Stromynskaya road. But time passed, everything around developed, was built. There were streets from the north and south of the square. The main population were soldiers who served in the Preobrazhensky regiment. Of course, then all the streets had different names. Many of which remained unknown.

At the end of the XVII century, this territory was considered periphery. One century was replaced by another, and these places became the center of Moscow. Everything around was expanding and developing. The dash of the city went to the northeast. In 1742 the village became a territorial part of Moscow. This happened after the construction of the Preobrazhenskaya Outpost and the chamber-collegiate shaft.

Window to the past

Let's try to remove the heavy and dusty curtains, which are shared by "today" and "yesterday". Let us look into the past, at least through a small gap. Consider how everything looked then.

Here we see Preobrazhenskaya Square, unusual and at the same time simple in its architectural embodiment. In the center, between the northern and southern territory, is a building. Most likely, this is the Preobrazhensky order, or perhaps the Secret Chancery. Then it was the place of trial and police investigation. Nearby is a cozy church. It was named in honor of Peter and Paul, and later renamed the Savior of the Transfiguration.

If we shift our eyes to the Yauza River, we will see the construction in the form of the letter "n". It was founded by the Emperor's linen factory. In 1775 an almshouse was established on its territory (an institution for keeping disabled people). It is still preserved today near the Matrossky Bridge. In the modern world, this is the oldest building left from those times.

Then all the architectural structures were made of wood, except for only three chambers.

Shortly before his death, Peter decided to convert the estate into a large palace with a park complex. But the intended was not destined to become a reality.

A severe fire destroyed half of the settlement. Preobrazhenskaya Square lost all the wooden buildings in the northern territory. Then they did not begin to recover. Once again the area was built up only in the second half of the XIX century.

On the road to modernity

We moved on, more precisely, closer to our time. Before us is Preobrazhenskaya Square, Moscow, 1952. The buildings of the pre-revolutionary period are still preserved here. The center is filled with stone houses, in the south there are wooden structures. But the northern part does not look so modern. All buildings are made of wood. Looking behind the camera-collegiate shaft, we will see the Cherkizovo parallel streets.

During the construction of the metro station, several houses and a church were demolished. Today, few of the surviving structures are built up and actually do not stand out from the general context of the city. Sometimes it is impossible to distinguish them from modern buildings. New facades, several floors above - and everything is different.

The Metropolitan

In the 65th, on the last day of the year, December 31, the metro station Preobrazhenskaya Ploshchad was opened. It was the continuation of the Kirov-Frunze line. And until 1990 was the ultimate. Named for the area to which it leaves.

The station has two exits: west and east. You get to the Preobrazhenskaya street or Bolshaya Cherkizovskaya respectively.

This station can be called a standard one. Here are built several dozen columns, arranged in two rows. The depth of the bookmark is eight meters.

Design

We'll walk and look at the metro station "Preobrazhenskaya Ploshchad" to see how it has changed since its first working day.

Then, many years ago, the walls were lined with white ceramics. The liveliness was supplemented with green stripes. It was real marble. Granite floor of red and gray colors. The interior was cozy and pleasant. But modern trends introduce new concepts of beauty. The walls are covered with aluminum panels, all the tiles are changed to black marble.

A hard story

The Transfiguration Square is fraught with many tragic events. One of them is directly connected with the construction of a subway station.

In 1768 the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior was erected. But unfortunately, in the middle of the XIX century it was demolished. This was one of the last places of the meeting of believers, which was destroyed in Moscow those years.

According to the official version, this was caused by the construction of underground tunnels in its place. But many see other reasons. It was rumored that the metropolitan who served in the church was ungovernable to the authorities. His views were contrary to the opinion of Khrushchev himself. The state stifled faith and nurtured atheistic sentiments.

In support of this, it should be noted that the tunnels do not really pass on the territory of the church, but are located side by side.

Upon learning of the plans for demolition, the believers came out to protect their parish. They surrounded the territory of the church and were on duty day and night. But one day they were just put on buses, taken to the side and blew up the building.

Today it is being restored as an object of cultural heritage. The project of the new building is based on old photographs and drawings in order to reconstruct the temple as accurately as possible.

Modern days

Today, the streets of the district do not stand out from the general picture of the city. Everywhere cars, people are moving, the work is boiling - Preobrazhenskaya Square lives a normal modern life.

To see something in the distance is simply impossible. High buildings surround us from all sides. Food, book, jewelry stores - Preobrazhenskaya Square can satisfy any customers' requests. You need electronics - look to the left. Clothes - to the right.

Here the infrastructure is well developed: kindergartens, schools, universities, service centers and ateliers. Three liaison offices. "Alfa", "Industrial", "Raiffeisen", Sberbank - Preobrazhenskaya area has dozens of financial institutions.

Yes, this area can not be called historically remarkable, but everything that happened before, lives in our memory. One has only to stop, screw up one's eyes and mentally move to the past. And then, before our imagination, we will see amazing pictures of significant events that have influenced the cultural and political life of the capital.
