Prus Boleslav. Biography: the beginning

The future writer (real name Alexander Glovatsky) was born in the family of a noble economist, who belonged to the gentry, in 1847. Despite belonging to the privileged class, Glovatsky was on the verge of poverty. However, little Alexander suffered not only from poverty. Very young, he lost his parents quite early, which affected the boy's fragile outlook. When Alexander was only three years old, his mother died, and at the age of nine the boy lost his father. The orphan was taken under her wing by a grandmother who could provide the future writer and give him a decent education.

Future life

While still a young man, Boleslaw Prus began to actively express and defend his civic position. Thus, in 1863 Alexander Glovatsky took part in the Polish uprising.

The future writer was wounded and captured by Russian troops. However all has managed: Prus Boleslav after treatment in hospital has been released. Nevertheless, the youth did not cease to conduct his dissident activities. And a year later Prus Boleslav was again detained and imprisoned. The sharpening lasted three months, after which the young man again went free.

Prus Boleslav graduated from the Lyceum in Lublin, after which he entered the Warsaw Main School, in the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. However, his studies in this institution lasted only two years. After all, Prus Boleslav was experiencing difficulties of a material nature. Because of this, the young man was forced to move to Pulawy, where he studied at the School of Agriculture and Forestry. Nevertheless, Boleslaw Prus soon found a way to return to Warsaw.

Writing Activities

The debut of Alexander Glovatsky as a writer took place in 1872. It was then that he wrote his first work for a local newspaper. Prus Boleslav quickly gained popularity. From 1874 to 1903 he was actively published in various Warsaw newspapers. And in 1882 the writer managed to get a job as editor in a popular magazine called "Noviny."

There Prus Boleslaw published his own articles of a publicistic nature. The most popular were literary critical articles that left a mark on Polish literature and contributed to a realistic concept of art.

Alexander Glovatsky died on May 19, 1912. On his grave in the cemetery of Povonzki there is a tombstone with the inscription "Heart of Hearts".

Creation

As mentioned above, the Polish writer Boleslaw Prus mainly worked for newspapers. During his life he wrote a lot of feuilletons and various chronicles. In addition, stories and humorous sketches were actively published, which had social problems (for example, Antek, Palace and Shack, Mikhalko, etc.). Also fairly widely known to the writer was the story "The Orphan's Share", which has certain autobiographical tones.

However, Alexander Glovatsky made the greatest contribution to the development of Polish literature as a novelist. Prus Boleslav his work under the name "Doll" has developed a new type of socio-psychological novel. In it, he portrayed an extensive panorama of life in Warsaw, tying it to the stories of three generations of Polish idealists. "Doll" is considered to be one of the best examples of Polish literature. In 1968, based on the novel was put the self-titled film "Doll" (directed by Wojciech Jerzy Khas). And in 1977, on the basis of the same work, a whole television series was released.
