Polish garden in St. Petersburg: photo and address

The Polish garden is a small cozy park in the center of St. Petersburg. It is always quiet and peaceful: as if there are no fussy city streets, noisy traffic arteries. There is only you and nature. At the same time, everyone entering here remains within walking distance from the usual whirlpool of life: next to it is the Fontanka embankment, five minutes walk to the metro station "Technological Institute".

Parishioners-Poles

Why the Polish garden? Because nearby - the Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the majority of the parishioners were Poles. From 1873 to 1926 the church was a cathedral, it was the residence of Metropolitan Mogilevsky (St. Petersburg was part of the Mogilev archdiocese, the metropolitan headed the Catholic church of a huge empire).

In 1930 the cathedral was closed. In the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) the building suffered from bombing, it was rebuilt. Later, the converted building was used as a design office. The activities of the Catholic Church in it revived in the 1990s of the 20th century. In 1994 the church was registered again as the parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Farewell, gloomy garden!

The Polish Garden (St. Petersburg) adorns the beautiful house in which Gabriel Derzhavin, the Russian poet of the Enlightenment, a statesman, a friend of Alexander Pushkin (elder by age), spent his last years of life. Since 2006, the Polish Garden is an integral part of the All-Russian Museum of AS Pushkin (the Pushkin Memorial Museum-Lyceum).

It's hard to believe that the Polish garden was gloomy and untroubled for a long time, the surrounding inhabitants walked dogs here. Now everything is different. At the beginning of the two thousandth years the garden was completely reconstructed: the dead trees were removed, young bushes were planted, beautiful flowerbeds were blended with an amazing combination of flowers. Pedestrian paths have changed. Forged benches gave a glorious green island of St. Petersburg a special, solemn appearance.

Against this background, the architectural ensemble (consisting of the owner's mansion, twin wings, guest house) looks especially harmonious and attractive. This is noted both by the residents of St. Petersburg and the guests of the city.

Interior interiors are decorated in the style of the era of Catherine II. Developing a project to restore the decoration of rooms, experts have studied a huge amount of special literature, which describes similar objects of the past.

According to the English pattern

The whole look of the Polish garden of the XXI century was formed, diligently avoiding modern trends in landscape design. Delicate lighting and video cameras - does not count. With the help of innovations, all the corners of the recreation area, which have come down to us from the times of the times, are emphasized, unusually shaded and protected.

Restoration proceeded according to archival drawings created at the turn of the XVIII-XIX centuries. It is known that the architect N. A. Lvov conceived an "English model" - a landscape park of irregular style: without an abundance of straight alleys, with a lot of bridges (wooden structures replaced with iron ones) and ponds.

By the way, Nikolai Aleksandrovich Lvov (a relative of Derzhavin's wife Darya Alexandrovna) was considered to be a multi-faceted nature: he knew a lot about poetry, tried himself as a composer, and made translations. In addition, he was fond of botany. Apparently, therefore, the Polish Garden, whose address has long been known to many, turned out to be so beautiful and, if you like, stylish. In the XIX century, the owners of the site changed not once, introducing each of their changes in the landscape.

Though you are not Derzhavin, but still ...

Water mirrors, reflecting the crowns of trees, elegant crossings, cozy summerhouses - according to some Petrograders, on the day of marriage it is worth going to the Polish Garden. Wedding photoshoot will be great! The bride and groom adorn the park with their presence, and he, in turn, generously "gives" the newlyweds their landscapes. On a long good memory.

Going to the Polish garden, you can fully expect a relaxed retreat. Indeed, no one is hindering anyone: there is a dispersed peaceful coexistence of newly mums with strollers, loving young and elderly couples, wedding "flocks".

The directions of the tracks, the location of reservoirs, architecture - everything, as was the case with the old Derzhavin. There is an opinion that as long as such objects as the Polish Garden are preserved, the concept of "memory of the place" continues to live. Walking along the bridges, walking along the avenues, you can fantasize about yourself: imagine yourself as a wise philosopher Gavriil Romanovich (or someone else from his contemporaries).

Good Traditions

The green branches of trees hide from the direct sunlight scenic stage of the Polish garden. In a warm season (in spring, summer, autumn) concerts are held here, literary and musical compositions, theatrical performances are played out. Is this not a continuation of the old good traditions? "Talks of lovers of the Russian word" were held in the kindergarten since 1811.

In 2011, the "old-new" park was opened for visitors. Paid entrance. Some are sad at times, when you can go to the park as much as you like and "for it." But a low "monetary barrier" saves the Polish garden (photo - in the article) from the uncontrolled stay on its territory of savage beermen, who are attracted by well-groomed, cozy spaces. True, this category of visitors manages to quickly turn the corners of paradise into hellish dirty places.

In the garden, in the garden

Flower beds in the garden pleases the eye: graceful roses, golden marigolds, shaggy asters and other flowers make this place particularly attractive. They say that in the Polish garden of annual and perennial plants - more than a thousand species. About 5 thousand flowering shrubs, several hundred trees.

It is said that four oak-trees that grow in front of the owner's house were brought from Tatarstan, from the small homeland of Derzhavin. There is a garden (as in the case of Gabriel Romanovich!). In the season on the beds grow pumpkin, zucchini, ornamental cabbage, onion, cucumber. Imagine: a gazebo on an elevation, and on the slopes of a hill the wisps of potential salines twist.

Optimization is evident. The land under the park is nothing, just over two hectares, but there was everything: green spaces, a playground, and a summer cafe. There is an opinion that the public -ite "glass" is a modern thing with pretentious pretensions. Well, a little pathos has not prevented anyone.

In winter, admission is free

How to find the Polish Garden (St. Petersburg)? Address for everyone who wants to visit a cozy place: the embankment of the river Fontanka, house 118. In the summer (during the paid period) the main entrance from the Fontanka side is open, you can enter the garden from Derzhavinsky lane (it connects the embankment and the 1st Krasnoarmeyskaya street).

When the yellow and red autumn leaves fall to the ground (by the way, amazing apple trees with red leaves grow in the garden, which unusually color the terrain and without autumn "interference"), Derzhavinsky lane entrance is prohibited. From November 1, the gate is locked until the next park season. A snow-covered garden can be visited free of charge.

The garden is open every day

Polish garden opening hours has the following: from 10:30 to 20:00. The ticket office closes at 19:30. The ticket costs 60 rubles (there is a solid list of exempts, for example, it includes schoolchildren under 16), a monthly subscription is 600 rubles (data from April 1, 2016). There are no days off or short (pre-holiday) days.

At the entrance you can read the appeal to the citizens of St. Petersburg and guests of the city to take care of the elements of the architecture of the garden, to keep order and cleanliness. Strict "no" - walking dogs, drinking spirits, riding a bicycle, walking on the lawn. No one goes. All is orderly and noble.

And yet ... Part of the people are very bored at times, when the students of Techno Lounge and Voenmeh were walking freely around the garden, breathing, rustling with leaves ... Hosts and stray dogs were chasing through the expanses ... There is an opinion that a monument of federal significance, beautiful, solemn and noble, Ceased to be for the residents of the district a native St. Petersburg garden. But he lives, the Polish Garden (St. Petersburg)! Let his story go on!

For your reference: a five minute walk from the green sights of St. Petersburg - the Rains Theater (a small drama theater), the youth theater "Na Fontanka", a metrology museum. There are other attractions, for example, a monument to Dmitry Mendeleyev, Trinity-Izmailovsky Cathedral, etc.
