Plane Picatini and Weaver rail

Anyone interested in firearms, or just a curious reader of magazines and books on the weapons issue, constantly faces the terms "Picatini and Wavera". And one thing and another - these are auxiliary devices for equipping with additional equipment, without which modern small arms are unthinkable. This article is intended to give a popular definition of what the Picatini bar is, and what is its difference from the Weaver rail, and to describe the features of both and their designations by NATO classification.

Pikatini Plank

The name comes from the English Picatinny rail. Structurally, the device is a rail-bracket, reminiscent of the cross-section of the letter "T". It is used on various small arms as universal fastening of optical, collimator sights and other auxiliary devices, including support bipods, tactical pens, laser target designators, lighting devices and other equipment.

The general standard was developed by the US military research and production organization Picatinni Arsenal. This standard is known in America under the designation MIL-STD-1913. For NATO, it has a different designation, namely: STANAG-2324. Pikatini's plank allows not only rigidly fixing the additional device on the weapon, but also to move it back and forth, precisely adjusting for each individual arrow. Direct attachment to the bar is carried out with the help of bolts and levers, which allows you to quickly change the configuration of the equipment, adapting the weapon for a specific task. To avoid deformation under the influence of temperature changes that occur when the barrel heats and cools, the Picatini bar has transverse slots made with a constant pitch. Their dimensions and pitch are set by the general standard (slot - 5.23 mm, pitch - 10.01 mm, depth - 3 mm). In addition to the cooling function, the slots act as position locks for many auxiliary devices.

Weaver Rail

Planck Picatini differs from Weaver only in the dimensions of the slits. In fact, the Weaver rail is the same design, but does not meet the MIL-STD-1913 standard. As a result, most of the auxiliary devices that are installed on the Picatini slats can be installed on the Weaver rail. The width of the Wiewer slots is 0.180 ", but unlike the Picatinny slats, the Wiever slots do not necessarily have to be placed at the same pitch from each other, so not all auxiliary devices intended for mounting on the rail will fit the Picatini slat.

Council airsoft

In conclusion, we draw the attention of the strikbolists to the fact that in the case of all kinds of copies of small arms produced by the People's Republic of China, the standards specified in the article are not maintained, and often the width of the slats and slots in them are of arbitrary sizes. And this applies not only to the Pikatini slats, but also to the attachments of the devices. Therefore, when buying such a replica, you should immediately select the device that is matched with it, otherwise it will be very difficult to find a suitable part later.
