Places of interest in Ivanovo and the region

The ancient Russian city of Ivanovo, located in Central Russia, is well known not only in our country, but also far beyond its borders. Often it is called the Textile Capital of Russia, the Print Region, and also the City of Brides.

From the history of the city

The first settlements on the river Uvod appeared at the beginning of the 14th century. It is believed that the village of Ivanovo is named after the famous John the Baptist. In 1871 it was annexed to the Ascension Land. As a result, a new city appeared - Ivanovo-Voznesensk. It has long been a center of light industry. It was here, on one of the textile manufactories, the first steam engine appeared.

Many of Ivanov's attractions are connected with the revolutionary activities of the city's working people. Here often spontaneous riots and strikes of workers, dissatisfied with working conditions, broke out. Due to this in 1905, the first Soviet of Workers' Deputies was formed here.

Sights of Ivanovo, photo and description of which is in all promotional brochures of travel agencies that organize trips to this city, you should start to inspect the Monument to the fighters of the revolution. It was installed in 1975 on the Revolution Square. According to art critics, the composition is ambiguous. It consists of two parts. The first one is a dark rectangle, symbolizing prison casemates, from which fire bursts out - a symbol of revolution. And inside the granite monument is an illuminated crystal, very reminiscent of a beating heart.

The second part of the monument is a sculptural group and is called "Raising the Banner." The team that created the monument (artist M. Milyutin, architect E. Kutyrev and sculptor D. Ryabichev), was awarded the State Prize of the USSR in 1978.

Ivanov's sights are a lot of museums, old churches, factory owners' houses, magnificent manors. In addition, it is necessary to note the unique beauty of nature. Thick fir and pine forests, birch groves and groves create an atmosphere of romanticism and mystery, give the impression of a fairy tale and give a small mystical touch to these places.

Sights of Ivanovo and the Ivanovo region. Monasteries

For history lovers, we recommend that you begin to explore the sights of Ivanov from the Holy Vvedensky Monastery. The introductory church of this complex is located on Basis Street, 23. By the way, in any kiosk selling printed products, you can buy a map of the city, which lists all the sights of Ivanovo with addresses.

This temple was decided to build on the descent of the inhabitants of Ushakovo and Yama in 1900. The plot for construction was provided by Count Sergey Dmitrievich Sheremetiev. At that time he owned many lands in Ushakovo. In the spring of 1901 a solemn laying of the temple in Ivanovo took place. Sights, photos of which can be seen in this article, have been replenished with a new exhibit. The church was raised for private donations.

Six years later, in the summer of 1907, the construction was completed. The temple was consecrated by Archbishop Nikolai of Vladimir.

The design of the church clearly traced the motives of Byzantine architecture. A three-tier iconostasis was installed in the workshop of AI Shirokov. The floor is covered with Metlakh tiles.

In 1909 a two-storey house was built in the courtyard of the complex, which in its appearance resembled the boyar chambers of the 17th century. It housed the apartments of watchmen and prosfornyu. The entire territory of the temple was surrounded by a metal fence with three gates.

In 1938 the religious building was closed. Divine services were resumed only in 1989. It should be noted that the return of the church to the parishioners was accompanied by tragic events. Four women went on a hunger strike and 11 days and nights were spent on the church porch, demanding an immediate resolution of the issue of the return of the temple.

In March 1991, the Holy Virgin Monastery was opened here, and construction of monastic buildings began on its territory.

The city of Ivanovo, whose sights, as a rule, do not have a centuries-old history, nevertheless, they are interested in tourists with their more "young" buildings.

The Holy Assumption Monastery

This monastery was built with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II in May 1998.

At the end of the 18th century in the southeast of Ivanovo was the Assumption Cemetery. In 1815 a wooden church from the Intercession Monastery was moved to this land . A bit later, a bell tower was created here, created in the style of classicism by the architect Petrov. In 1924, the temple was handed over to the Renovationists, and in 1933 the cemetery was destroyed. In its place, the amusement park of the Melange complex was arranged. Townspeople often call this place "the park of the living and the dead." The church was transferred to the Ivanovo electric grids, after which it was rebuilt and changed beyond recognition.

After the church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1995, a community began to gather here, choosing a monastic path for itself.

The construction of a new church can be called a nationwide affair. It was attended by parishioners and philanthropists, among whom such famous people as Nikita Mikhalkov, Andrei Bykov, Mikhail Chepel.

The monastery takes pilgrims. Everyone can come here and stay for three days.

Museums

As you know, this city is inextricably linked with the textile industry. During the Patriotic War local enterprises practically dressed and shod all the Soviet Army. Therefore, it is quite natural that acquaintance with it often begins with the Ivanovo Chintz Museum. It is located in the mansion of the manufacturer DG Burygin. The architect A. Snurilov designed the building. This building is characterized by a complex architectural layout - carved doors, decorative tiles, stained-glass windows and other original decor elements. Some exhibition halls, a library, stockrooms are in the building of the coach house in the courtyard of the house. It was built in 1914. Unfortunately, the name of the architect is unknown.

The central exposition of the museum tells about the history of Ivanovo textile, how this production was born in Ivanovo region. Here you can see a unique collection of fabrics, which began to form in the late 19 th century.

The locals are very hospitable. They are proud of their city. Showing guests the sights of Ivanov, they will certainly bring you to the Ivanovo Art Museum. He is in the center of the city, on Lenin Avenue, 33.

The exposition of the museum is amazing. Here you can find unique exhibits representing the culture of different peoples - from ancient Egyptian monuments of the 21st century BC to modern art. In total, his collection includes more than forty thousand exhibits. The museum is one of the largest in Central Russia.

The special pride of the museum's workers is the collection of Russian art of the 18-20th centuries. It includes more than five hundred paintings and drawings by such outstanding masters as Aivazovsky, Repin, Shishkin, Surikov, Polenov, Levitan, and others.

Museum of Military Transport Aviation

Many mistakenly believe that all of Ivanov's attractions are connected exclusively with the textile industry. This is far from the case. On the territory of the combat training center of the flight crew of the garrison "Severny" is a museum of military transport aviation.

The building in which it is located has a historical value - here the legendary fighter squadron "Normandy-Niemen" was formed.

Today, the museum exposition is on display at the airfield and in exhibition halls. It acquaints visitors with the history of formations and regiments of military transport aviation. You can see the models of aircraft, historical photos, maps, interesting documents.

Employees of the zoo are real enthusiasts, they make every effort to ensure that their charges live comfortably. Circus

The building was built in 1983. At first it was designed for three thousand seats. For the first time the project of this structure was published in 1931. The architect is SA Minofiev. A wooden hemispherical dome 50 meters in diameter was built in two years. In February 1933 the circus received its first visitors.

In 1975, according to the decision of the State Council of Ivanovo, the old building was blown up. In its place built a new circus in the style of typical Soviet architecture. It accommodates 1,700 spectators.

Children's theater, zoo, circus Ivanovo - attractions (reviews of young guests are only confirmed), a visit which will give children a real pleasure.

Cities of the Ivanovo region

I must say that this is a very small region of Russia. The main of its cities is, of course, Ivanovo, which we have already told a lot about. A distinctive feature of the region is the glory of the "textile edge".

The most famous and visited place is Ples. In those days, when he was sung by Levitan, he was a supernumerary town of Nerekhtsky district of the Kostroma region. In the 19th century this city was the main port of the textile province. Later he acquired the glory of a resort town. Artists and villagers mastered it in tsarist times.

Ples is very picturesque - representatives of creative professions appreciate the unusual relief of the banks of the Volga in these places. Today it is the cruise capital of the Ivanovo region. In this small provincial town a well-groomed quay, clean streets. To the services of tourists are comfortable hotels, cozy cafes and restaurants.

Not only Ivanovo, whose attractions attract tourists, but other cities of the region are beginning to increase popularity among fans of antiquity. In each of them there is something special, original, unique.

Kineshma is not only the beauty of the great Russian river, but also the general atmosphere that reigns in the city. It was here that Yakov Protazanov filmed his famous "Bride".

Shuya, undoubtedly, is proud of the house of Balmont, the second highest bell tower in Russia, ancient traditions and secrets of soap making.

In Yuryevets you can see the bell tower of St. George the Victorious, the house-museum of Tarkovsky. In addition, here is the annual film festival "Mirror", which every year becomes more popular.

The city of Ivanovo, whose attractions are already well known far abroad, will not eclipse the magnificent old architecture of Yuzha. Famous Vladimir heavy-duty trucks have forever glorified Gavrilov Posad.

Cities in the region are small (the largest city is Ivanovo). The sights of each of them are worth a separate story. And now let's talk a little about the "namesake" of the hero of our story.
