Physiological disorders and diseases of phlox

Before considering phlox diseases and methods of fighting them, one should know about the physiological disorders of the plant, since they should be distinguished from viral and fungal diseases. As a rule, physiological damage occurs due to improper agrotechnics and growing phlox on acidic soils.

For example, the leaves began to dry up and fall off on the plant. This is the physiological desiccation that begins with the lower leaves. It happens because of a lack of moisture. Phloxes simply get rid of excess surface evaporating moisture. Dying leaves occurs while the drought lasts . The same process occurs because of a summer or late spring plant transplant. To prevent drying, you need copious watering, after transplanting - shading and regular spraying with water.

Another physiological disorder is the cracking of the stems. This occurs during the intensive growth of phlox. At the bottom of the stem, longitudinal cracks appear, it becomes flat and subsequently breaks under the weight of the inflorescence. This is due to an excess of moisture or nitrogen, and also because of the thickening of the planting.

Phloxes: diseases and pests

Consider the main diseases that affect these plants, as well as the reasons for their occurrence, and measures to combat them. The most dangerous are viral diseases, since the diseased plant needs to be removed along with the earth and destroyed.

Ring spotting is a kind of phlox virus disease. In May or June on the leaves appear bright spots with a characteristic ring pattern. If the lesion is strong, then the spotting covers the plant completely. As a result, deformation and twisting of the leaves occurs, and flowering does not occur. The virus of black annulation with nematodes is transferred.

Kurchavost (wrinkled) leaves. This disease causes a cucumber mosaic virus. The leaves are covered with irregular necrotic spots, scabs. They become tuberculate and curly. Sometimes there is a mosaic pattern of yellow-green color. The plant ceases to grow, the stems become deformed and brittle.

Variegation also refers to the viral disease of phlox. It appears when mass flowering occurs. On the petals of the flowers appear bright strokes, and the leaves become deformed. The mosaic virus of the rhesus is transferred by nematodes.

Measures to combat viral diseases - is, first of all, the identification and destruction of already affected plants. Since the carriers of diseases are mainly nematodes, the site should be treated with nematicides.

Fungal diseases of phlox

Rust is a very common disease that affects varieties with dark leaves and inflorescences. It appears as spots of rusty-brown color. Their size and number gradually increase, the leaves wither and die. The diseased plant and soil around it should be sprinkled with iron vitriol (3% solution) or copper chloride (0.7% solution).

Septoria (leaf spot) also refers to the fungal disease of phlox. Symptoms are manifested in mid-June. On the lower leaves are formed rounded grayish small spots. They start to increase, then turn yellow, and a reddish rim appears. As a result, the affected areas die. For the fight, the same solutions as for rust are used.

The main pests of phlox include nematodes, slugs, caterpillars of cabbage whitecaps and a scoop, drooling a penny. To combat them, the drug "Inta-Vir" is used. The paths between plantings and the soil are powdered with ash, lime-pushenka and "Metaldigide".
