Perioral dermatitis

Perioral dermatitis is a fairly common skin disease, which is characterized by the appearance of specific rashes around the mouth area in the form of pustules, pimples, red dots. In severe forms, the disease spreads to the eyes and cheeks. The disease is typical for young girls, often can appear during pregnancy.

Causes

Peripheral dermatitis does not have an established cause of occurrence. It can be caused by the following factors:

- the use of ointments on a steroid basis (hydrocortisone, prednisolone);

- diseases of the stomach and intestines;

- use of low-quality cosmetics for facial skin care, foundation creams;

- physical factors, which include ultraviolet radiation and strong wind;

- use of fluoridated toothpaste;

- bacteria, fungi, spores, which are present in the hair follicles of the skin around the face;

- a change in the hormonal status that occurs before the onset of pregnancy, the menstrual cycle;

- taking contraceptives (oral).

Clinical picture

Perioral dermatitis is manifested by specific eruptions, which have a pink or red color. They resemble watery, shallow pimples and are localized on the skin around the mouth. Also, rashes appear on the areas of the cheeks, chin, under the nose. They are easily confused with acne, which have similar clinical manifestations. However, they are other skin diseases. Affected areas of the skin have a rough surface, which is explained by the presence of numerous tubercles of inflammatory origin. After a short time, pigment spots are formed in their place. Crusts, which are formed during the resolution of tubercles, can not be ripped off, since it threatens to infectious agents into the subcutaneous layers and then into the bloodstream. As a result, serious complications can develop.

The disease is characterized by a different intensity of the rash. In some, it can be represented by several pimples around the mouth area, in others it has a pronounced character and a disorderly arrangement of the elements. The disease is accompanied by burning and itching in the affected areas.

Peripheral dermatitis does not cause harm to health, but it causes significant inconvenience to the patient, as the cosmetic properties of the skin are impaired.

How to treat perioral dermatitis?

An untreated disease retains its clinical picture for months and even years. Correct therapy allows you to get rid of the rash in a relatively short time.

Treatment of the disease consists in the exclusion of the use of cosmetic means for the face. The face must be washed with warm water, without the use of soap, soap. Next, you need to change the toothpaste, which contains fluoride, to herbal cleansers. Oral baths made from plant extracts are also an important component of therapy. Analysis for fungi, spores and leptotryx is also important, as it helps to rule out a possible cause of the disease. Do not take self-medication with this pathological condition.

For the treatment of medicines used, which belong to the group of antibiotics: tetracyclines. They are used in the form of a cream or ointment. The duration of the course of therapy is twelve weeks, depending on the clinical manifestations. Improvement is observed after two months of treatment. Thus, perioral dermatitis is eliminated , the treatment of which is performed, does not require hospitalization, but with the recommendations of a dermatologist. Such therapy will prove effective and if necessary preventive measures are taken, all symptoms will disappear and the skin will get a healthy appearance.
