Historical facts

The first inhabitant of Winter is coachman Nikifor Matveyev. In 1743, in accordance with the Decree of the Irkutsk Chancellery, they were assigned from the Bratsk prison to the Ziminsky stanitsa for maintenance of the service chase for a seven-hectare salary.

Throughout the second half of the 18th century and the entire 19th city, Winter developed as a pre-village village. Here settled the working and exiled people - builders, railwaymen, prisoners. In 1878, the village was the center of the rural society. It also included the village of Ukhtui and the Hulgunuiskaya zaimka. Until now, the local history museum has preserved photographs of convicts - builders of the railway, the arrival of the first locomotive in 1889, the car - the church.

1891 was marked by the beginning of the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. A locomotive depot, workshops, a station, a residential settlement were built.

The new status was assigned to the settlement by the Soviet authorities. Since 1917 the city of Winter stands on the river Oka at the confluence of the river Zima in it.

Geographical description

The territory is about 53 square meters. The regional center of Irkutsk is located 251 km to the south-east. The relief is a plain, slightly inclined to the Oka River, sometimes heavily waterlogged, with a high groundwater table. On the territory of the Winter there are lenses of permafrost, aggressive waters, buoys, strongly podzolized soils. Seismic indicators - 6 points.

The sharp continental climate determines the temperature in winter to -40 degrees, in summer - up to +30 degrees. The frost-free period lasts 90-93 days. The first frosts begin in early September and end in the first days of June. Precipitation falls 44 mm per year, most (60%) - in the summer.

Deposits are represented by sandy-gravel mixtures, brick loam, coal, gas, rock salt, sand, limestone.

Economy

Today the city of Zima is the center of the administrative district, a large station of the Eastern Railway. The basis of the economy is formed by railway transport enterprises: wagon and locomotive depot, communication distance, track distances, railway station "Winter" of Transsib. All of them are members of JSCo Russian Railways.

In addition, there are private sawmills and woodworking enterprises. They are based on the base of former reinforced concrete products, LDK and small sawmills. Ziminsky Chemical Plant now belongs to the city of Sayansk and is called JSC Sayankhimplast.

"Okinskaya" poultry farm is one of the largest in the country producers of poultry meat, eggs, livestock products (meat, milk), grain.

Utilities are provided by ten utilities.

Social sphere

Education is represented by general education schools in the number of eight institutions, lyceum, primary vocational technical school PU-6, training cadres for the railway, auxiliary correctional school, children's and youth sports school, training and production plant.

In addition, in the winter there are nine kindergartens, a home for children and youth, two clubs for teenagers, a summer health camp.

Health care is represented by the city hospital, nineteen structural units of emergency and primary health care. Russian Railways has established a non-government hospital to provide primary, outpatient and hospital services to its employees, pensioners and their families.

Cultural institutions are represented by the center "Russia", the city cinema "Horizon", the museum of local lore, the House Museum of Poetry by Evgeny Evtushenko, the centralized system of libraries, the music school, the children's art school, the house of crafts.

Suburban railway communication is carried out with Irkutsk and the cities of the region, bus - with Sayansk. To Moscow by rail is 4934 km. Automobile federal road M-53 passes near the city.

Here you can find multi-storey and well-maintained houses, and wooden low buildings with plots. Block and brick structures are mostly located in the settlements Hydrolyzny and Zheleznodorozhny in the eastern part. In the old district of the city most of the buildings are single-story. Almost 40% of the housing stock is located in the Old Winter - the central part of the settlement.

The architectural heritage is represented by the active white-stone church of St. Nicholas the Sainter (1884), wooden manors of the XIX century.
