A feature of patchwork technique "artichoke" is a patch in a certain sequence of parts of the product, cut from various materials. Most often, the elements are made in the form of squares of satin ribbons, brocade or cotton fabric, and then folded into triangles. Beads, sequins and laces are used for decoration. Patchwork in this style is usually used for decorating unbreakable Christmas tree toys.

New Year's ball in the artichoke technique looks very unusual and causes a lot of questions about the technology of its manufacture from inexperienced needlewomen and people not related to sewing. In fact, to create such a toy, even a beginner does not need special skills. The product can be sewn in half an hour, using the usual patchwork tools. It is enough to buy or find in the house multi-colored scraps and add a little bit of fantasy.

Balls in artichoke technique: master class

Let's try to create a simple Christmas tree toy, using a foam block and three types of fabric.

For work we need:

• Shreds of three colors;
• A ball-shaped foam piece with a diameter of 8 cm;
• Pin-studs with a flat bonnet;
• centimeter;
• Small scissors;
• Glue pencil;
• Ribbons for decoration;
• Lighter for singing bands;
• Washout marker.

At the first stage, it is necessary to mark the foam block with a marker, so that the patches lie exactly and do not warp. On the ball itself there will be a strip in the middle, it should be selected to make it easier to navigate. Then we find the poles, marking them with pins. This can be done by marking any place on the line and then placing the stud on the opposite side: measure the circumference by a centimeter and divide the distance in half. It will take several more lines to divide the ball into 8 parts.

Preparation of tissue

Cut the material into square shreds measuring 7 to 8 cm. The first layer will need 10 pieces, the second and the third - 16. It is desirable to immediately fold the pieces of fabric 4 times and iron them. Then the faces and the center will be clearly visible, and the folding of the workpieces will become easier. Take the carnations and place it in the center of the shred from the front side. We take out one of the pins on the pole and attach the first shred there. Smoothen and slightly stretch, so that the material "grabs" the workpiece, after which the edges are fixed with pins, successively turning to opposite sides. Bends of the fabric must coincide with the lines drawn by the marker. Do not be afraid that the markup will be noticeable after the end of the work - even if this happens, the marker can easily be dissolved by sprinkling water.

We make denticles

We proceed to the formation of shreds for our ball in the artichoke technique: we take the fabric, unfold it and pierce it with a pin from the wrong side in the center. The hat must hold the material, and the point should come out. We remove the fastener on the workpiece and, having folded the shred in half, place it near the center. Press it, top the edges to the middle, forming an even triangle, and fix it. In order to be smooth, we orient on the lines drawn. For symmetry, go to the opposite side and repeat all the actions, forming a corner. We make two more denticles, filling them with the remaining sides. We make sure that all lines coincide. Now we need to fix the ends of the triangles: superimpose adjacent to each other and fix them with pins. We turn the ball and attach the first layer on the other side.

Apply the second layer

At the next stage of creating a New Year's ball in the artichoke technique, we take a different type of fabric and insert a new scrap between the teeth of the first layer. We do this using a centimeter, measuring 1.5 cm from the center in advance and noting the points of attachment with pins. We follow that the fold is a continuation of the line on the first layer. Then again, fix the shred on the opposite side, repeating all the previous steps. The second layer will need twice as many "denticles". Mark 1.5 cm on the remaining lines and pinned triangles.

We make the third layer

It remains to use the last kind of fabric for our toy in the artichoke technique. Again we retreat 1.5 cm from the bottom row of denticles. Repeat all the actions in the same way as on the second layer. We attach the scraps from both sides of the foam slab. When all the triangles are assembled, it remains to close the seam in the middle of the ball. To do this, you can use the fabric to tone the last layer. We remove all the sticking threads beforehand. We cut out a strip of about 27 cm and a width of 3.5 cm from the material. Turn the edges and fix them with a glue pencil, wrapping the ball with a little stretch, and then fix it with pins. Decorate the product can be ribbons of ribbons and other elements, using them as a fastener. Stylish and effective Christmas tree ball in the artichoke technique is ready.
