New decorating possibilities: 3D gypsum panels

For those who do not like trivial options for finishing the walls, a new generation of decorative coating has appeared, which allows implementing the most original design and decorating ideas. These are wall gypsum panels with the effect of volume. They are presented in a variety of different options, both in form and in texture, are easy to assemble and are able to transform the spatial perception of any interior.

Volumetric panels of gypsum - what is it?

As correctly noted by people's wisdom, everything new is a well-forgotten old. 3D gypsum panels "came from" ancient Egyptian relief plates used for decoration. The modern level of development of technologies and production of materials allows creating unusually interesting, voluminous and complex images on surfaces that imitate almost any textures.

And how are they used?

3D-technologies conquered not only the film industry, but quickly "overstepped" these boundaries and entered our everyday life and interior. In the interior gypsum 3D panels can perform both purely practical and aesthetic roles. Due to the ease of installation, the variety of textures, shapes and patterns, it became possible to transform the interior in the shortest possible time in accordance with their desires and preferences.

In addition, such panels can be used to create partitions and zoning rooms, decoration of individual sections of walls, batteries and masking of small surface defects.

Volumetric gypsum panels can completely cover the wall surfaces or, placed on any site, attract attention to it and accentuate it.

Properties of gypsum

This is a natural material obtained as a result of grinding and burning gypsum stone, mined in quarries, which are quite a lot in the territory of Russia. For the production of panels, gypsum is often used, since it has the following properties:

  • Ecological purity;
  • Does not attract dust;
  • Does not absorb odors;
  • does not burn;
  • Not toxic;
  • Easy to care for.

How are they made?

In the manufacture of bulk panels the following actions are performed:

  1. Development of 3D-relief. This is done by designers, creating sketches and building computer models.
  2. From the building gypsum, water and special additives, reducing its fragility and increasing plasticity, mix the composition.
  3. In the form created on the basis of a computer model, fill the composition with the necessary consistency.
  4. After the mixture dries completely, the 3D gypsum panels are removed and the finish is finished with paint, varnish or other materials.

Advantages of gypsum panels

In addition to all the advantages that the panels received from the gypsum, there are also other positive qualities of this finishing material:

  1. Easily and simply mounted.
  2. Light weight.
  3. The humidity level is regulated. Gypsum panels absorb excess moisture from the environment, and if the room becomes dry, then give it away.
  4. Excellent heat and sound insulation characteristics.
  5. Ease of care.
  6. Absence of stitches when properly laid.
  7. A variety of exterior design allows you to select the most appropriate for the texture and design panels that correspond to the style of the interior.
  8. Possibility of coloring in any color or original backlight.
  9. Relief of electrical work, so the wiring is secured without shtrobleniya behind the panels.

Like any other finishing material, gypsum 3D wall panels have some drawbacks.

Minuses

Panels made from plaster can only be used in dry and moderately humid rooms. They can absorb condensation and moisture, that is, they have high hygroscopicity, so rooms with a high and constant humidity level are not suitable for them.

In some cases, their rather large weight becomes a negative factor.

In addition, gypsum panels for walls do not withstand strong impact and increased mechanical stress. That's why they are not recommended for use in children's rooms, for which plastic is more suitable.

To fix such panels on the wall, the best method of fixing is glued. However, it requires a very thorough and high-quality basic wall decoration. Gypsum 3D panels for walls are difficult to fix on the frame because of their fragility.

Types of gypsum panels

Panno, stucco molding, imitation of artificial stone or fabric - this is the kind you can find in the shops of panels made of gypsum. In shape, in most cases, they are square or round, less common are round and oval, which are mounted at a certain interval. Standard gypsum panels are produced in such demanded sizes: from 200 x 200 mm to 600 x 900 mm, with a thickness of 1.8 to 3.6 cm.

Manufacturers accompany their products with instructions that indicate the number of necessary elements to obtain a single image. In some cases, the composition is lined up on one volume plate, which creates a repeating motif. Between each other, the plates can be connected in various ways, forming an original pattern. You can not make a solid decorative wall covering, but arrange the panels diagonally, with different bands or groups.

When buying gypsum bulk slabs, you need to know the paving area. This is important because such a finish can be performed on walls that do not exceed 10 m in length and with a total quadrature of not more than 40 m 2 . If these parameters are exceeded, it will be necessary to arrange seams, which will compensate for the temperature changes in the substrate.
