History

One of the most popular in Belarus is the National Academic Theater named after Yanka Kupala. Its history began in 1888. This year, on June 26, the building of the theater was solemnly started. The authors of the project were the architects K. Kozlovsky and K. Vvedensky. The opening of the theater took place in 1890. The first performance, based on the play of Y. Kupala, is "Pavlinka". This event took place in 1917. This production is the hallmark of the theater. She is still in the repertoire to this day. Its troupe was formed in 1920. It is this year is usually considered the date when the national academic theater named after Yanka Kupala was founded. Supervised by the first troupe Florian Zhdanovich. Worked in it talented actors. Until 1927, the troupe included not only dramatic artists, but also ballet, choir and orchestra. In the year 1933 the opera house was opened. Musicians, choristers and dancers were transferred there.

During the war the theater was evacuated to Tomsk. There the artists were right up to the Victory of the Soviet people over the fascist invaders. Soon the theater received the name of Yanka Kupala, and in 1955 was awarded the title of academic.

In the sixties in the repertoire there were new performances created by the young directors.

From 1973 to 2009 the post of the main director was occupied by Valery Raevsky.

For the great contribution to the development of Belarusian culture, for the high achievements in the field of art, the theater received the national status in 1993.

Since 2009, the post of artistic director of the troupe is Nikolai Pinigin.

In 2013, a large-scale reconstruction of the theater building was completed. He was returned to the appearance of 1890.

Artistic director

Nikolay Pinigin has been holding this post since 2009. In 1979 he graduated from the Theater and Art Institute in Belarus, the "Television Director" department. Nikolai Pinigin started his career on television. He did not work there for long. In 1980, he moved to the Russian Drama Theater named after Maxim Gorky, where he served for several years as an actor. Then there was the director's internship at the Maly Theater in Moscow. At the National Academic Theater named after Yanka Kupala N. Pinigin came in 1985. At first he was a director, and after more than twenty years he became an artistic director. Nikolai Pinigin is a laureate of the State Prize of Belarus. To date, he has already performed more than fifty performances in various theaters in Belarus, as well as in Russia.

Visiting rules

The National Academic Theater named after Yanka Kupala asks spectators to observe the following rules:
