Muscle spasms
Spasms of the muscles are accompanied by a simultaneous contraction of the fibers that are located inside them. As a rule, such states are the result of sudden movements. Muscle spasms can also occur due to excessive stretching. This, in turn, occurs in the absence of proper preparation for work.
Such phenomena can occur at any age, but most often they are observed in individuals in middle and older age.
So, with a quick torso after a prolonged sitting, spasm of the back muscles, provoked by stretching, can arise. This process is accompanied by pain. On stretching, the muscle fibers respond appropriately to contraction, which leads to a restriction of blood flow to them and increased irritation. This, in turn, contributes to even greater stress. Thus, the muscles are deprived of the opportunity to relax on their own.
Typical cramps usually occur during movement. In contrast, muscle spasms block the motor function.
As practice shows, the contractions are characteristic for those parts of the body that are most often in a state of tension. These are the areas of the neck and back. These sites show the greatest sensitivity to loads, in some cases, even to insignificant ones. Muscle spasms in these areas can occur due to tense sedentary work for a long period. In some cases, contractions occur due to hypothermia (draft, cold, or ice water).
Quite often spasms and inflammations in the muscles appear sharply, immediately after the transfer or lifting of gravity or unsuccessful movement. The greatest danger is the lowering or lifting of the gravity, accompanied by the rotation of the body sideways or the transfer of gravity on the arms outstretched in front of him. However, in most cases, a sharp contraction occurs within one to two days or the next day after excessive exercise, weight transfer, or prolonged work in an uncomfortable position. Inflammations, accompanied by spasms, can occur against the background of acute respiratory viral infection or influenza. Muscle contractions are always characterized by high intensity pain. Inflammation and spasms cause swelling of the fibers and pinching of large nerves. That, in turn, provokes severe pain and contributes to more intense muscle contractions.
Subcooling is a fairly common cause of seizures and spasms. As a rule, the occurrence of these phenomena does not belong to the signs of diseases, as they pass quickly enough and are rare. However, in many cases, patients complain of spasm of leg muscles at night. It should be noted that the manifestation of these symptoms may indicate the presence of various diseases (including the central nervous system). The causes of such reductions include hidden trauma, diabetes, inflammation, neurological diseases, thyroid damage. To provoke spasms in the lower limbs can be flat feet, stress, varicose veins and, of course, excessive tension. In some cases, the manifestation of symptoms is due to a lack of trace elements (calcium, magnesium and potassium). As is known, magnesium participates in the transmission of muscle nerve impulses to the cells, calcium is its "physiological partner". To better assimilate these trace elements, D-vitamin is used.
With prolonged manifestations of muscle spasms it is necessary to be examined from an endocrinologist, neurologist and phlebologist. Experts will identify the underlying disease and send the treatment for its elimination. As a result, in most cases, there is also relief from muscle spasms (seizures).
