Motorcycles with automatic transmission: Honda

While automobile concerns started to master automatic transmission, the similar idea was caught by manufacturers of motor vehicles. Motorcycles with an automatic transmission had to become much more convenient, allowing the biker to enjoy the ride without being distracted by the tachometer.

First experience

The world's first motorcycle with automatic transmission appeared in 1975. Novelty introduced the company Honda, which put the model on a conveyor and released it for the Canadian market, and also sold in the US. The Japanese hoped that their creation, dubbed the Honda CB-750, would cause an incredible interest among the fans of motorcycles, but expectations were not met. Motorcycles with automatic transmission received a large number of negative reviews. Bikers were not enthusiastic about the massive automatic transmission, which did not perform its direct function well, and was also not repairable. It is worth noting that car giants have faced a similar problem, which also experienced difficulties with the under-developed transmission. Most cars could not justify the hopes of drivers who gave a lot of money for the "automatic". While in the USSR they released the usual gearbox of the motorcycle "Dnepr", the Japanese firm received a colossal experience with automatic transmission.

Return to automatic transmission

Despite the failure with the Honda CB-750, the concern did not say goodbye to the idea of creating a whole line of motorcycles with an automatic transmission. The projects were frozen and waiting for the best times, when the automatic transmission will be completely refined, and its characteristics will reach the required level. Three decades later, cars with "automatic" won the world market and became more popular "mechanics". This result was achieved thanks to the smooth operation of the mechanism, which significantly reduced fuel consumption, increased maneuverability and dynamics of the car.

In 2005, the Japanese decided to put on the production model Honda DN-01. This sports bike with automatic transmission became more successful than its predecessor. The new bike received the ACC with six speeds and three modes:

  • Sport.
  • Tiptronic.
  • Automatic.

For motorists, the automatic mode is perfect, which makes it possible to enjoy a comfortable ride, concentrating only on the road. Switching to sport, the unit instantly changes not only the dynamics, but also the sound of the engine, demonstrating all the potential. The tiptronic mode was created specifically for fans of mechanics who prefer to keep the sport bike under their own control.

The best among analogues

In the modern market of motorcycles, you can find many models with AKKP, but the best are the Japanese. They are engaged in the production of bikes, which are presented in two variations of the transmission: automatic and mechanical. If before "automatic" was less attractive option, having a lot of weight, then in new models it is heavier than usual gearbox for only 10 kg. Now Honda presents several motorcycles, equipped with "automatic". Among them, the best is Crosstourer, which received:

  • V-shaped, sixteen-valve engine with a volume of 1237 cm 3 .
  • 130 liters. from.
  • Clearance - 18 cm.
  • Electric starter system.
  • Fuel tank capacity of 21.5 liters.

This model is not only the best-selling, but also the most reliable. Italian specialists engaged in the installation of automatic transmissions on their motorcycles, do not significantly reach the level of the Japanese.
