Metallica: discography and history of the band

Probably, even to a person quite far from the concept of heavy metal or thrash metal, you do not need to explain what a Metallica band is. The discography of the team includes many studio and live albums, not counting collections, singles and cover versions. Let's look at the key moments that influenced the work of the band, and the albums that were released, because virtually everyone was sold around the world in a multimillion-dollar print run.

Metallica. Discography: the beginning of creative activity

The American group Metallica, which belongs to the "big four thrash metal", was founded in 1981 by James Hetfield (guitar, vocals) and Lars Ulrich (drums), who before that professionally engaged in tennis and even became a champion among juniors. They were joined by guitarist Dave Mustaine, who later left the team and founded the equally popular band Megadeth, and bassist Ron McGovny, who also did not last long.

At first the band performed cover versions of songs of their idols, Motorhead bands, Black Sabbath and Diamond Head, but in late 1982 she made her debut in the Metal Massacre collection with the song Hit The Lights. This was the beginning of the rise of the legendary band Metallica.

Discography of the same team began with the release of a full-length studio album Kill'em All, which was released in 1983.

Albums of the 1980s

The unprofessional Ron McGowan was replaced by Cliff Burton, who even taught the band members the basics of musical credentials. True, Mustaine no longer participated in his recording, as the others could not tolerate his aggressive behavior. Instead, Kirk Hammett joined the group, who previously played on the Exodus team.

The album took a good position in the world charts. For example, Metallica still performs the famous track Seek And Destroy at concerts, as well as a unique cover of Am I Evil, originally owned by Diamond Head.

The success was fixed by the release of the album Ride The Lightning (1984), in which the thrash direction of the band was formed finally. Metallica songs were very diverse. What are only such songs from the album as Ride The Lightning, For Whom The Bell Tools and even the ballad Fade To Black, which turns in the middle of the song into aggressive thrash metal.

However, real success and recognition came to Metallica in 1986 after the release, which became a classic of the genre, the album Master Of Puppets. It is all its critics and listeners who call the band's best. There's no composition, it's a real hit.

Unfortunately, in the same year, Cliff Burton died in a car accident, which was a real shock for everyone. He was replaced by a bass player from the Flotsam & Jetsam team named Jason Newsted. Garage Incorporated Re-Revisited (1987) was recorded with him and the strongest work ... And Justice For All (1988), which is believed to have been dedicated to Burton's memory.

Albums of the 1990s

Until the early 90's, Metallica did not release albums. But in 1991, she literally shocked everyone with the release of the so-called black album, which became platinum and received many prestigious awards. True, some evil languages claim that the title track Enter Sandman group, to put it mildly, borrowed from a little-known Excel team.

However, it's not worth doubting, the success of this album surpassed all expectations. Even those who have never been interested in Metallica's creative work have now become ardent fans of the band.

But after the deafening success of the "black album", for some reason, Metallica changed its style somewhat in the same direction as the grunge type Alice In Chains and released two almost failed fans of the classic thrash-metal album Load (1996) and Reload (1997), although Some compositions have become quite popular. This is King Nothing, Until It Sleeps, Fuel, Memory Remains and Unforgiven II (interpretation of his own ballad, which sounded in the "black album"). In addition, the album was reissued in 1987 (the work was called Garage Inc.).

Albums of the 2000s

In 2001, Jason Newsted left the band, and for the first time Bob Rock performed the bass part, which produced several previous albums.

As a result of this project, the work of St. Anger (2003), although it rose to the top of the charts, but severely criticized by listeners for the raw and unnaturally electronic sound.

Further as a bass player was invited to Robert Trujillo, who previously played with Ozzy Osbourne and in the band Suicidal Tendencies. With him was recorded a studio album of 2008 called death Magnetic, which was received and criticized, and listeners are very warm, because Metallica has returned to its usual sound.

Separately it is necessary to tell, that at group Metallica the discography only by albums is not limited. In 2013, the film Through Through Never appeared, consisting of concert performances of the team and a certain mystical component in the form of a feature film.

In general, Metallica is a unique phenomenon on the metal scene, because together with the Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth bands, she became the founder of thrash style and had the greatest influence on the work of such well-known bands as Exodus, Testament or Overkill.
