Metal workbench with own hands: blueprints

If you like to work with your hands, then the workbench will be very handy. Of metal, this design can be made independently. It will consist of a table top, which is fixed on a metal frame.

Design features of the product

The metal workbench can be carpentry or metalwork. The first variety is quite simple to manufacture, but on the surface of the tabletop it will be possible to work exclusively with wooden parts. This version of the product assumes the presence of a lid made of wood or treated with linoleum. When trying to work with a metal workpiece on a workbench, the coating will absorb oils, and metal chips will damage the surface. Joiner workbenches are made of wood, so they are not as stable as metal ones.

In the garage, locksmith designs are most often used. With the help of such equipment it is possible to work with metal preforms. Such a piece of furniture in the workshop is universal. It is important to determine before the beginning of the work, there will be a tabletop single or multiple.

Recommendations for work

The metal workbench will have an udder, a lid, and a table. The penultimate element should be endowed with three-layered sides. Metal structures are made using MDF or a thick sheet of plywood, which is additionally covered with a metal cloth. It is important to exclude the presence of sharp corners, which can be at the countertop, which will prevent injuries. It is important to provide the table with boxes that will be needed to store the inventory. It is necessary to equip these components with guides that will prevent accidental falling. If there is a need to protect the wall, which will have a table installed, you can install a special screen on it.

The legs should have a large surface area, and also have excellent strength. They are further strengthened in the lower part. At the interfaces it is recommended to arrange a shelf for varnishes, large tools, accessories. Most often, steel workbenches are equipped with two disks, which have special tools for the support. A clamping screw is important.

Preparation before work starts

The metal workbench can have completely different dimensions, however, the width of 60 cm can be used as the most optimal. Whereas the length can be equivalent to 1.5 meters. The frame is recommended to be made from a profile pipe or metal corners. Next to the table should be located rosettes and light sources. For the cutting of metal is best to use the Bulgarian. Prepare the metal corners, the thickness of which is 3 cm. Their size should be 40 x 40 mm. Suitable and steel profiles, the cross section of which is 30 x 50 millimeters. You will need a metal strip to fix the desktop to the frame.

When a metal workbench is made into the garage by hand, the table top is made, as a rule, from dry boards, the thickness of which is 50 millimeters, whereas the width of this element can vary from 100 to 150 millimeters. In the process of work you will need a galvanized metal 2 mm thick. Strips of the same material will be needed to form the rims, which will protect from the effects of sparks. The length of one such strip should be equivalent to the length of the working surface.

Work on manufacturing of a workbench

If you decide to make a metal workbench yourself , the drawings should be prepared in advance. The parts are cut to size, and they must be joined together by welding. If there is no need to install additional shelves, the structure should be reinforced by means of stiffeners, which must be made from the same corner. They should be installed by stepping back from the floor surface 10 cm. The same distance stumbles down from the edge of the countertop. The same manipulation is also carried out with the central part of the table. In order to ensure a higher stability of the structure, square steel plates are welded onto the legs.

Features of assembly

The drawing of the metal workbench, which is presented in the article (see photo above), will allow the work to be done correctly. After the basic design is collected, you can start working on the frame. Using square steel corners with a side of 50 millimeters, you need to form a frame. Its length should be 20 cm more than the dimensions of the structure. This is required to fix the vise. Then, in the place where the desktop will be strengthened on the main structure, you should weld steel strips, while on them a structure is installed from the corners. Among other things, it will be necessary to strengthen the protective screens.

If you decide to make a metal workbench with your own hands, in a corner that is used for stiffness, as well as in the countertop, it is necessary to drill holes to which the boards will be fixed. The most common for this are self-tapping screws with countersunk washers. At the next stage, the table top can be covered with sheet metal, which is strengthened by screws in pre-drilled holes. The shelves can be painted or treated using a flame retardant. To ensure a more comfortable work, the part can be rigidly fixed. To do this, use the vice, which has in the composition of parallel sponges. All processed elements can be fixed.

Finally

As you know, the metal workbench is very afraid of the effects of moisture and corrosion. In order to extend the life of the product, you can make a special paint treatment, designed to work on metal. This will make the design even more attractive externally.
