Material lemsvul - what is it?

Sometimes when considering knitting clothes or yarn on the question of the material, you can hear the answer: "Lemswool." What it is? What are the properties of a material with a soft texture, what is the technology of its production, features of wearing and application?

Lemswool: what is it?

In English, the expression lamb's-wool is roughly the same. It can be found on the labels of yarn, clothing, linen, accessories. How does English translate "lemsvul", what is it?

The expression consists of two words. When we say "lemsvul", the sound b is partially lost or heard deafly. The English word wool in translation means wool (yarn). Lamb (English) is a sheep (lamb, lamb). The additional 's and the writing of an expression through a hyphen in most cases implies the translation of the expression as "sheep's wool".

In dictionaries, as a result of translating the expression lamb's-wool, you can still see another meaning - "girdle". This is a technological definition of the material for the processing industry. It denotes thin and relatively short sheep's wool from lambs not older than six to seven months of age.

Poles (lemsvul): what is this material

The products of sheep shearing are wool. For an animal, the rune loss is not fatal. After a while, by the time of the onset of cold weather, the hairline grows and even gets better. The wool can be soft and stiff, long and short, strong and loose, shiny or matte. It depends not only on the breed, but also largely on the period of the year in which the haircut is made, and also on the age of the animal.

The wool of young animals will always be softer. Autumn in the rune is not enough fluff, it is dominated by coarse bone and fibers, overdried by the summer sun. Therefore, the main haircut is mainly for the spring.

At the age of six months, the length of the fibers is not more than 50-60 mm. This material is extremely soft and elastic. Poyarkovaya wool and raw materials from sheep fine-woolen breeds are used for the production of high quality textile products, which are distinguished by good technological properties.

Features

So, the wool of fine-wooled sheep, or the gills (lemsvul) - what is this in quantitative and qualitative meanings? Their hairline is not uniform even in purebred fine-fleeced breeds. It has fluff, awn, transition fibers in different proportions. Selection is aimed at obtaining fibers in the rune with the greatest uniformity.

The best wool is obtained from merino sheep. The material is characterized by a fine crimp with a thickness of down fibers of up to 25 μm. Tonine (diameter of one hair) is the determining value. For comparison: semi-fine wool - on average 27 microns, semi-rough - 31-37 microns, rough - on the average 40 microns and above. Secondary characteristics - length (up to 30 cm), crimp, softness, silky, elasticity. Also pay attention to the absence of dead hair, color (natural) and staining of fibers.

Varieties

The spring (once a year) shearing of the sheep presupposes the removal of the entire hairline (fleece). Only in this case it can be assumed that after processing the raw material and spinning it will yield a qualitative lemvoul (wool).

If the haircut is carried out twice a year (in spring and autumn) and taken off not by fleece, but in the form of separate braids, it means that the quality of the hair is much worse. This coat is rough, it goes into spinning production for the fabrication of fabrics not for wearing. Most often it is used for felting.

In addition to the natural wool obtained during the annual haircut of animals or combing it out, they also determine the factory coat (dressing the skins of killed animals); Sheep-fur coat (thinning of fur); Restored (processing of old products and scraps of new fabric). Classification into groups and varieties is associated with the diameter of the wool. Than this indicator is less, that thread will be thinner. Of a certain amount (weight) of raw materials, more yarn will be produced, it will be longer.

Advantages and disadvantages

Thin sheep wool as a material (lemsvul) has a low thermal conductivity. It well isolates the body from the effects of cold in the winter and provides a comfortable cool in the summer, while retaining sufficient permeability to the air, enabling it to "breathe" the body. Hygroscopicity makes it possible to absorb the evaporation of moisture well.

Products made from sheep wool with proper care for a long time will not lose their presentable appearance. The only rule is to protect the material from moths. Fibers contain on the surface lanolin (animal wax), which has antibacterial properties. He also stimulates blood circulation, beneficial effect on muscles, joints, respiratory system.

However, in rare cases, lanolin or substances used in the treatment of wool can cause allergic reactions. Another negative point is the tissue prickle. But for the material of fine wool, this effect is eliminated. Itching and discomfort can cause tinned fibers more than 23 microns.

Reviews

Previously, wool made fabrics for a variety of purposes: from massive sails to thin lace stockings. Now, high-quality raw materials after a multi-level cleaning, carding, spinning system, is used for making fabrics for thin blouses, sweaters, scarves, blankets, blankets. Their owners praise the material for its lightness, softness, elasticity, warmth.

What else can you say about lemsvul material? Reviews of knitting lovers complement the positive characteristic of fine wool, noting its natural color and good colorability with natural and chemical dyes. They say that if a well-connected thing from quality material after washing in the right mode stretched out into length and decreased in volume, then after drying it will take the original form with a minimum deviation from the original size.
