Major Server Differences From the Computer

At many enterprises for storage of the basic databases use not a server, but simply a good modern computer. Indeed, for a while he can cope with this function.

If the company is not big, the staff is not very much, then everything will work fine, but if it is a large company whose databases are constantly being queried from a large number of different computers, the 1C program, or the other that is used to store data, Constantly updated with new information, the number of customers and goods is growing, at some point problems with access to information may start. The computer, because of the growing amount of information, is loaded more slowly, the invoice does not print quickly either ... This interferes with the normal operation of the firm.

In such cases, of course, there may be a problem in the software, but it may be necessary to update the central computer to a newer and more powerful one.

But, before buying a new computer, it's worth considering whether it's better to buy a server? To make the right decision, you need to clearly understand what the server is different from the computer.

First, the server has two power supplies, so that it copes with more serious loads and can work almost around the clock, if necessary. Moreover, each of these power supplies is almost one and a half times more powerful than the one that is installed in the computer.

Secondly, the server has additional fans, including for cooling hard drives. In the computer, those are not provided. Of course, an experienced technician can install them manually, but their work will increase the load on an already not very powerful power supply, and instead of overheating you may face another problem - lack of power.

Thirdly, working with the server, you can automatically duplicate all the 1C databases on several hard disks at the same time. It is very important. After all, in case of a single hard drive failure, there will be backup copies of information about all transactions, balances in the warehouse, arrears, prices for goods, etc. The loss of this information would be a whole catastrophe for the company.

Fourth, you can add or change hard disks without stopping the server, but to replace the hard drive on the computer, you need to disconnect it, suspending all the work of the company.
Having weighed all these moments, you can make the final decision about buying a computer or a server.
