Luis Ortiz: undefeated giant from Cuba

At one time, leading Soviet boxing specialists trained the masters of pugilism in Cuba quite well. And this contribution to the sport development of the population of the island of Liberty brings its big fruits to this day, because even today there are quite a few boxers-champions who come from this small and proud country. One of such bright and outstanding fighters to talk about is Luis Ortiz. His fate we will consider in detail in this article.

Birth and facts

Luis Ortiz, whose photo is shown in the article, was born on March 29, 1979. In the ring he wears the nickname "True King Kong". Nowadays he lives in Miami, Florida, USA. Performed to this day in the heavyweight division and has a rather impressive growth - 193 centimeters. Spent 28 fights on the side, in 26 of which came out the winner. At the same time, 22 victories won by knockout, 2 fights for various reasons were declared invalid.

Fights in amateurs

As an amateur, Luis Ortiz had 362 fights. Of these, only in 19 battles he experienced the bitterness of defeat. The athlete for quite a long period of time consistently entered the national team of Cuba, but for various reasons, not as often as I would like that leadership, acted under its banners. The championship of the country the fighter has won five times, also it was the quarter-finalist of a world superiority in China in 2005. In the team competitions he won the silver award of the World Cup in the same year.

Moving to a new level

For the first time in the ring already in the status of the pros Luis Ortiz stepped in the winter of 2010, already being a very mature athlete, because at that time he was 30 years old. Already in the opening match, he knocked out his then opponent in the first round.

In November 2010, the Cuban managed to knock out a rather experienced zachniman Zach Page, who had not experienced early defeat for several years before. After this victory our hero gained two more early ones.

The first title and further career

In the summer of 2011, Luis Ortiz, whose battles, as a rule, ended early, was able to confirm his status as a knockout again and without any obvious difficulties he selected the WBA Fedelatin and WBC FECARBOX belts from the representative of Panama Luis Anders Pineda.

Six months later, the Cuban won two more belts - WBO Latino and WBC Latino. To do this, he had to defeat Epifanio Mandos. The duel was stopped by the judge in the ring ahead of schedule in the seventh tri-minute.

In September 2014, Luis Ortiz, Latif Kayode, took part in the fight. Literally thirty seconds after the starting gong, the Cuban managed to bring two successful blows to the opponent and send him down. And already at the end of the round Ortiz got an opponent in the corner of the ring and began to beat him, as a result of which the referee stopped the fight, thus giving Ortiz the victory. Thus, the Cuban took himself the title of temporary world leader of the WBA heavyweight division. However, as it turned out a little later, Luis's joy was very short, since in January 2015 he was deprived of his belt, as he used the drug "Nandrolone", banned under international rules.

After serving a nine-month suspension, the Cuban met in the ring with Byron Polly and sent him to a knockout, and in October 2015 again won the title of interim champion, defeating Matthias Vidondo.

Literally two months later, the Cuban had to carry out mandatory protection of the belt in a duel against Bryant Jennings. Luis several times managed to get pretty close to the opponent, but he managed to quickly recover, not falling down, which eventually happened, but in the seventh round (the American missed an uppercut). Strong blows, missed from the Cuban, did their job, and the fight was stopped ahead of schedule.

In the spring of 2016, Louis held another title defense and destroyed in the ring a veteran from the US Tony Thompson.

On the first day of November 2016, Luis Ortiz, a world-famous boxer, was stripped of his title. This decision was made by the World Boxing Association because of the refusal of the Cuban to go to the mandatory defense of the title against Alexander Ustinov from Russia.

However, on November 12, the Cuban once again went into the ring and defeated Malik Scott's judging decision, incidentally sending him on the battle three times in a knockdown.

On December 10, Ortiz's duel with the representative of Great Britain David Allen is planned .
