London, Museum of Natural History - the history of life on Earth

History of appearance

From the very beginning, all these interesting exhibits were exhibited in the Bloemsey of the British Museum. But over time they increased, and it took more space to accommodate them.

In 1850, the museum director suggested that the parliament buy a new room for these expositions. And only after fifteen years was allocated a plot of land in Kensington. The project was designed by the architect Francis Fouque, it was finalized by Alfred Waterhouse. The building has an original facade, aged in Byzantine style. Construction went from 1873 and lasted until 1881. And after the completion of the repair was its official opening, and the first visitors visited here.

In the early nineties, the British Museum was renamed the Natural History Museum and continues to exist to this day.
