Hierarchy is ... The meaning of the word. Types of hierarchy

A hierarchy is a consistent arrangement of elements of something in common with each other. The important point is that there must be something important on the upper stage, and on the lower one there must be something small and insignificant. Elements can, for example, range from large to small, from hard to reach to easily accessible, from the powerful to the weak.

Hierarchy of Management

The hierarchy is found, in particular, in public administration. In this sense, it is a system based on disposal and submission, and consists of a large number of levels. Any elements of public administration can be presented as elements. For example, officials and legal acts. Controls can also be considered an element of the system. Based on the foregoing, a definition can be formulated. The hierarchy of management is a system in which some people give orders, while others execute them. Everyone faced it one way or another.

Necessity and inevitability of the hierarchy of management

In large groups that exceed the size of small companies, an organization of power is inevitably formed, which can be represented in the form of a hierarchy. This happens in any large corporation or organization. Do not forget that the state, which is a certain form of public authority, is also subject to hierarchy. This system is necessary so that orderliness prevails in the world. Public administration can not exist without a hierarchy.

Social hierarchy

The social hierarchy is a collection of filters through which not only wise, educated or highly moral individuals can go upstairs, but they are well-oriented in society and cultural. One can argue for a long time, rightly or not, but in reality everything happens just like this. Hierarchy is a forge of personalities, which society needs. Only this role is subject to it.

So, the hierarchy is a collection of public filters, through the first of which it is relatively easy to pass, but as they move upward they become more rigid, hence, not all reach the final step.

Hierarchy of needs

A. Maslow said that human needs can be divided from simple to complex, and the desire for something higher can appear only after a person receives satisfaction from the lower. For example, when he feels protected or eats.

The pyramid looks like this:

  • Physiological needs. This includes eating, drinking, sleeping, etc.
  • The need for security. This order, confidence in the future, independence, security, freedom from fear and fear.
  • The need for belonging and love. This is communication with relatives, friends, forming their own circle.
  • The need for recognition and respect. A person should respect himself. It is also good if others respect him. The individual seeks fame and prestige.
  • The need for self-improvement. The individual must develop and do mainly what he has a predisposition to.

Opinion of the scientist

So, the hierarchy of needs is a system of desires, to the realization of which a person strives all his life. What did Maslow himself say about his pyramid? He believed that the lower desire should be satisfied before the higher one appears and starts to disturb the person. This should be normal. Maslow also noted an interesting regularity: when small needs are met, the individual begins to desire something more complex and refined. At the same time, the scientist stressed that this rule has exceptions. Some people, for example, believe that self-improvement is more important than love. And others satisfy minor needs and do not aspire to anything, even if they are not happy with everything. Maslow believes that all such anomalies in the development of the individual arise as a consequence of a neurosis or in the case of pronouncedly depressing external factors.

Hierarchy of goals

Hierarchy of goals is a system consisting of several steps. How does it look like? It is very simple: on the lower steps are located small targets, and on the upper ones - larger ones. Writer Harry Adler, who created a book called "NLP. Modern psychotechnologies, "he talked a lot about this. He argues that any goal must be represented in a kind of hierarchy, where the lower is subordinated to the higher. To do this is very useful. The hierarchy of goals is a pyramid that demonstrates what is important for a single person. It allows you to better understand and learn the individual.

How to arrange goals in the pyramid?

At the top of the pyramid can be located information about some desire or value of a person, for example, achieving emotional balance. This intention can not exist in itself, for its execution it is necessary to paint the bottom of the pyramid with smaller goals. For example, in the center there can be an inscription «to have enough money», and below - «to raise the education» or «to advance on an office ladder». And the pyramid must be completed by a set of everyday goals aimed at fulfilling the desires that are in the middle. It's all easy to imagine in the mind. It should not be forgotten that hierarchy is what allows a person to order and systematize his life.

It is quite clear that goals located at the higher levels may at first seem ghostly and vague. But the tasks below should be quite clear and tangible. This is a very important condition.

Why is it necessary to build a hierarchy of goals?

Each person should create his own pyramid of goals and check how daily tasks, which take so many forces, help in the realization of central and higher desires. After completing this exercise, the individual can learn with the mind to distribute time, which, as a rule, always happens a little. Hierarchy is a saving straw for a man who is rushing between his numerous affairs and does not have time.
