Leukocytes in the urine: early diagnosis - a guarantee of health

White blood cells are called white blood cells of our immune system, the function of which is to protect the body from infections. If there is an excessive amount of these blood cells in the urine, then there is an infection in the body. When it comes to children, the high concentration of leukocytes in the urine speaks, first of all, of the presence of a urinary tract disease. So how do you determine that the white blood cells in the urine exceed the norm?

Signs and Symptoms

In order to understand that the child has too many white blood cells in the urine, it is not necessary to be a doctor, it is enough to simply see the indirect signs of infection.

Most infections are accompanied by symptoms such as difficulty or, on the contrary, frequent urination, which almost always goes along with a cutting pain.

Another sign that the white blood cells in the urine in excess is a change in the color of urine or its consistency. So, the urine becomes cloudy and a sediment appears in it. Also, the child can get fever or the child can shiver. To such symptoms is often added and pain in the abdomen, attacks of nausea and vomiting.

However, in some cases, infection of the urinary tract can be completely unaffected, so diagnosing the disease is extremely difficult. In this case, the analysis for leukocytes is the only way to diagnose.

How to determine the presence of leukocytes in the baby's urine

Leukocytes in urine in children are determined by routine urinalysis. True, sometimes such tests can give an erroneous result. This happens if the child consumes too much vitamin C or protein, if white blood cells from the genital organs accidentally hit the urine of the child, if the urine was collected incorrectly or insufficient quantity was collected for the analysis.

What to do if the level of leukocytes in the urine is high

Most often the presence of a high level of white blood cells in a child is associated with an infection of the bladder or a urinary tract infection. Fortunately, such diseases are easily amenable to treatment. It is enough to just go through a short course of antibiotics. After treatment, the analysis for leukocytes in the urine is reapplied, and if the antibiotics were correctly selected, then the level of white blood cells comes back to normal.

In some cases, the doctor may prescribe an additional analysis, which is called urine culture. Such an analysis can show which bacteria are not amenable to antibiotic treatment.

Leukocytes in the urine of the baby

In order to determine the state of health of an infant, it is sometimes necessary to take urine for analysis. And, based on the number of white blood cells in the urine, they make conclusions about how the child's organs work. If the level of leukocytes is rejected from the norm (for girls this is from zero to six units, but for boys a little less - from zero to four units), then we can say that the baby can have pathologies in the body.

In order to obtain the most accurate urine analysis, you need to collect it correctly. Adults usually do not have this problem, but with babies you will have to suffer. You can sit for hours on the baby and wait until he pisses, and you can try to provoke a urine. To do this, you need to press the warm fingers easily on the suprapubic area. Also there are special children's urinals. Of course, that the container for collecting urine should be sterile. For analysis, only morning urine is needed.

If, as a result of the analysis, it was found that white blood cells in the urine exceed the norm - this may indicate inflammatory processes of the urinary or genital tract. It can be diseases such as cystitis, prostatitis, urethritis, inflammation of the uterus, vagina or testicles. Also, it may be the presence of sand or stones, improper arrangement of organs, pyelonephritis and other pathologies.

Therefore, if you notice that your child's urine is not light yellow, without impurities, but cloudy, with mucus, sediment and the like, you should immediately pass urine analysis to white blood cells. Because how you are responsible for the health of your baby.

Be healthy!
