Kharkiv. Sights of the big city

Kharkov is the largest city in the east of Ukraine, in terms of size and population, second only to the capital. It is not possible to establish its age reliably. It is considered that in its modern form it exists from the middle of the seventeenth century, but ancient settlements and sites of ancient settlement existed in this place from time immemorial. Anyone who wants to better understand Ukraine, should go to Kharkov. The sights of the city are not so famous as Kiev's, but the city is very characteristic and expressive. Its history has left an indelible mark on history, especially the part that went through the city in the last century.

Kharkov city, sights

It is one of the most significant industrial, scientific and cultural centers of Ukraine. Throughout the past century, he was constantly at the heart of historical events, at the forefront of the strikes of wars, revolutions, industrializations and collectivizations. It was this turbulent historical turbulence that had a decisive influence on the external appearance that the city of Kharkov now possesses. Its sights to a large extent only illustrate the era that formed it. The most terrible war in the history of mankind passed through Kharkov three times, in 1941 and 1943. In many ways it had to be rebuilt. And its architectural appearance was formed in many ways precisely in this postwar era. But what survived from the pre-war development deserves special attention. These are Orthodox churches - the Annunciation, the Assumption and the Intercession Cathedral. Each of them is expressive and unique in its own way. But there are a number of buildings and structures of a secular nature, which Kharkiv is rightfully proud of. Attractions of this kind are especially relevant and interesting against the backdrop of the fashionable architectural tendencies of the beginning of the twenty-first century. This, of course, is the famous Gosprom - a unique construction of the era of constructivism, erected in the city in 1925. It is carefully restored, restored and continues to amaze the audience with its grandiosity and unusual configuration of load-bearing structures and ceilings. Very expressive also, built after the war in the characteristic style of the so-called "Stalin Empire", the railway station. From it begins Kharkov, whose sights can be started to inspect directly from the station square.

City Tours

All the significant sights of Kharkov for one day to inspect quite realistically. Especially if you ask to help someone from the indigenous townspeople who are not indifferent to their city to help. Otherwise, you can skip something interesting and expressive. For example, these are not at first glance in the eye of ancient buildings, like "House with chimeras." This is a unique building in the Art Nouveau style, with elements of Gothic. Another attraction is the Governor's Palace. These buildings are among the few monuments that survived the war. And to start a tour of the city is best from the central square of Freedom. It is impressive in its scope and ranked among the largest in the world.
