Keratitis of the eye: signs, causes and treatment
The keratitis of the eye, the treatment of which must be thorough and immediate, is a fairly complex disease of the cornea, which can contribute to a significant reduction in vision. In this case, the inflammation can penetrate deeper. The opacity of the cornea can be seen quite clearly.
The keratitis of the eye may have such signs: redness, decreased clearness of vision, corneal opacity, severe pain, under the eyelids there may be a foreign body sensation, a negative reaction to light, lacrimation, and mucous or purulent discharge. If at least one of these symptoms occurs, you should immediately begin treatment. Naturally, all procedures are performed after thorough diagnosis and clarification of the causes of the disease. For this purpose, the patient is examined by an ophthalmologist with the help of special equipment, and also tests are taken to determine the presence of infections.
To treat keratitis the eyes should be complex. In the overwhelming majority of cases, if the disease is not started, the doctor prescribes antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drops, as well as antibiotics. To ensure that no spikes form within the eye, drugs should be taken that can dilate the pupil. It should be noted that the disease caused by a fungus or herpes virus, is treated most difficultly. In some cases, medications do not help. Then the doctors offer to treat the keratitis of the eye in an operative way: with the help of special equipment specialists carry out sterilization of the corneal thickness.
If the eye keratitis has a very complex shape, then the treatment is carried out permanently. Doctors prescribe immunostimulating drugs. Often conservative and surgical treatment is carried out in a complex. The prognosis depends on the severity of the keratitis and the infection that caused it. As a preventive measure of the disease, eye injuries should be prevented and any inflammatory processes should be treated in a timely manner.
