The future Hollywood star was born on October 28, 1974 in a city called San Juan in Puerto Rico. His mother Arlene Phoenix and father John Lee Batt were in a religious sect and engaged in missionary activity, and therefore traveled a lot with their five children in South America. In the late 70's, Joaquin's parents withdrew from the sect, changed their surname to Phoenix and settled in Los Angeles, USA. Arlene took a job in the casting department of the NBC channel, so she was always aware of what and where the auditions are. She, like her husband, was full of confidence that her children would necessarily become popular actors. Parents also took care of finding their own agent for Joaquin and his brothers and sisters. They became a specialist in the search for young talents from Hollywood - Iris Burton, who quickly put all her five young clients in TV and advertising shootings.

On the blue screens, Joaquin Phoenix first appeared in 1982. It was a sitcom called "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", and the main hero in it was played by his older brother - River. Then Joaquin was often invited to play secondary roles in various TV series, including Blues Hill Street, She wrote a murder, and others. Two years later, in 1993, there was a great misfortune: from the overdose of drugs the brother of the hero of our story, the River, died. Joaquin loved him very much and was very depressed because of what happened. He even wanted to forever break with the cinema.
